I picked up a 99 Dodge 2500 with Cummins Diesel. Has a good hitch. What do I need to get to set up trailer brakes? Anything special, or just the controller from the auto parts store. Can I set it up? Found some mirror on EBay that clip onto the existing mirrors. Will they let me see the boat around the camper? OH, $hit, the camper! Good tiedowns for the Dodge? Will the ones off the old 72 Chev work? Anyone know of someone looking for an old 72 Chev?

Help me out Dodge fans. Need to get the truck and camper ready to tow a boat.

We put a Tekonsha Prodigy in our 04 version of the same truck ... been very happy with it so far. Adjust once fo the weight and you're good to go.

If you want the very best, try http://www.brakesmart.net. The fellas rave about them, but they're on a long backorder right now.

The '99 should have the direct hook-up just above the brake pedal so it should be a breeze to install.

Any questions on your rig, try http://www.turbodieselregister.com ... incrdible amounts of info on there about anything you could ever want to know.

Can't help you muchg with the mirrors or the camper info ... we bought ours to pull a 27' TT and the new ones have flip out mirrors for towing \:\)

Go down and buy the Prodigy like Bob said. If you look on line you'll find it for about $100,it will be well worth it for ease of use. Then head down to the RV parts store and buy the plug you'll need to put it in your truck. The plug will be about $10 and will allow you to install the Prodigy in about 30 seconds.

I've got a 2004 Dodge 3500 diesel that I use to pull a 25.5' travel trailer. I use the Prodigy brake controller and love it.

I agree the prodigy is a great brake controller. I would also recommend if you tow any weight over passes or long distances to invest in a performance chip, and also a transmission and exhaust temp gauges. I can make your towing experience very enjoyable, the temp gauges will make sure you don’t push the truck too much.

Dodge has the wire harness plug for under the dash and is wired to the back plug, just make sure you use the round plug and not the 4 prong plug, hope this help's Doug

Just ran across this post and thought I would josh my buddy a little. I know he has a camper to put on that rig but he doesn't have a boat. Wait a minute, I think he is talking about my boat. Hummmmm, If he puts that camper on that rig and hooks up my boat it would probably be just the ticket for those multi-day springer trips. At least it will beat sleeping in the back of my canopy? Next I suppose he will want a 5th-wheel hitch so he can take my 5th-wheel too. \:\)

We just bought a 2005 Dodge one ton diesel to take the place of my 99 Dodge 3/4 ton V-10 for vacations. Not selling the 99', keeping it for work. I have a camper shell that I would part with for the 99. It is the fatory tealish green color. I have the extension slip on mirrors, Tork lift super hitch with extension., and Hapijac tiedowns. I have an Artic Fox 10' camper with the side slide and pull a 20' Trophy boat. The 99 brakes sucked until I went to the NAPA severe duties. The new Dodge has the heated flip mirors. I called TorkLift in Kent yesterday and they are going to wire the new truck. install the new torklift superhitch receiver, frame tiedowns, and the airbags with the compressor and dual controls inside the trick for $1870.00. The airbags with compressor is the most. All of this works great and I think I got the slip on mirrors at the Toys for Trucks in Lynnwood and they work great.

I had minor back surgery and am home on the bed. Lots of TV time I watched "Two guys garage" on channel 33, I believe. They installed some really cool aftermarket mirrors on the older 2002 on back Dodge. These mirors would extend out with the push of a button. They also would fold forward as well as backwards. Looked really neat.

Mirrors came in. Work great. Pigtail for the brakes is on order. Hitch draw bar came in. Little sloppy in the receiver. A pass with the wirefeed and a little grinding should tighten it up fine. Bullydog chip on the way. Will be looking for the guages for tranny temp and boost next. Thanks for the help so far. Yes, I know where to steal a boat, and no, I am not afraid of the dog!! Somebody's got to take the poor thing fishin'. :p

For that slop in the hitch, try http://www.hitchrider.com.

I have one on all three of my rigs and it's done the trick on all of them ... even on the full length of the AlCan. Several other guides have seen & we've ordered for them, all have worked very well.

I've been meaning to get this up for a tip in the past ;\)

I know where that "shaggy guy" can steal 7,000 lbs of fish killing metal. The skipper and his dog will just tag along.

Steve,
You may not be afraid of the dog but what you don't know (or maybe you do) is that it is not his bark or his bite it is his DROOL that will get ya. Then again he might lick you to death. Where do you come off saying "somebody has got to take the poor thing fishing" when I talked to you the other night and told you I was going out sometime next week you whined something about having to work  Blackmouth opens again tomorrow in MA 10. I still haven't put the cover on her for the winter have I!!
