I am going out on Saturday for the first time this year for Blackmouth. I was leaning towards Point no Point in the morning and maybe switching over to Double Bluff or Possession after the tide change.

However, I am prepared to go anywhere on the sound. Has anyone who's been out recently had any success in the area I mentioned or anywhere else in the sound? I will post a report on Saturday night.

Thanks in advance for the info.

PNP was good this afternoon, just before high slack. I was done fishing in 5 min., and trolled around looking for coho or chum the rest of the afternoon with no luck.

We fished Double Bluff early afternoon today - caught a bunch of shakers, but got to keep 1 and had to let one swim that was 1 inch too short

I fished Possession today form 9am to 12:30. We baoted three (10, 9 and 7) and lost one other. Got two on the low change around 10:15. A cayote spoon of a down rigger got two and a herring of a down rigger got the other two. We fished 100-200 ft of water and got our fished between 80 and 125 on the down rigger. We sorted through 10-12 shakers as well. There were Chum showing on the service and on the screen down around 40'. One of my six year old twins got the 10lbs. We also saw a school pf Orcas move through. I saw three of them but I'm sure there were nore around. It was pretty foggy.

Haven't seen Orcas down at Possession, but we were surrounded by Dall Porpoises yesterday at Double Bluff. They sure look like mini orcas... you sure?

Where on Possession where you?

Yes I'm sure. I have seen both many times. The first was a young male with a 2 ft dorsal followed by a mother a calf.

. It was foggy all day. I didn't see land until we left. It was my first time fishing possession. According to the chartplotter we were fishing the southwest side. There were 10 -12 other boats around us.

I was on Possession yesterday in the same spot and the fishing was similar for us. The Orca's were there. They swam around by our boat for a while and then headed west. I saw the mother with the little calf right next to her. Pretty cool. I just wish these guys ate seals. They've been pretty thick. Like a flock of cows following you sometimes.

Orcas love chum and always follow them in. Think we could train the chum to have them lead them to the seals and sea lions?

Wanted to try West Point on Friday, but after we launched from Don Armeni Fog was so thick we fished Elliot Bay. My Brother got a 8 pound keeper right off by the ramp, but I proceeded to lose 2 and only manage to get one legal to the boat which we lost trying to net it.

Fished hootchies and spin-n-glos and seemed to get bites from the launch to east channel. Fished in around 200 ft of water on DRs with the cables out from 95' to 135'. Lots of Sea Lions on the Barge bouys and had 1 harbor seal start following us around.

Did see some chum porpoising out in front of Todd Shipyard and there appeared to be alot of bait on the fishfinder. (The 8 pounder had a 6 inch herring in its belly).

All in all it wasn't a bad first trip going after Blackmouth.

Fished Kingston today. Never seen so many shakers. We released 40 shakers and lost one nice size BM at the boat. Quit the derby a couple hours early because the shakers wore me out. Fished herring, slow, fast, with flashers, and without flashers, trying to do anything to keep the shakers away. One more day like today and I will need a vacation.

when I can't keep the shakers off I will fish with a 4 or 5 inch silver horde plug. works great, actually I will usually fish the plug shakers or not.

We tried the SW portion of Possession Bar, and caught 2 BM that were just a touch too small - along with a zillion shakers. We too got tired pulling 'em in - and quit early.

We went in the afternoon- might have been part of the problem. Also hoping to spot the orcas - no luck there either.

Does anyone have an trick for measuring BM while in the water? We're new to this, and am trying to learn fast. So how do you decide without landing 'em?

Thanks -

My trick for measuring them is that if you have to use a measuring stick, It's too small.

Fished Possession again today and had real good success. Kept two BMouth at 12 and 8 lbs and lost five that were obviously legal by the way they ripped from the downrigger and ran. Had shakers but wasn't as bad for us as the last couple days. We saw many other keepers netted as well. Fish all came on Coyote Spoon and Bait Buster bouncing the bottom. Tons of bait again today. The fish are feeding on 4 to 5in. herring. Will be out again tomorrow unless the wind deter's. Sounds like it may pickup out of the southeast.

I fished Possession today and caught a ton of shakers. No keepers this trip. It was a perfect salmon fishing morning, overcast, calm, and warm. I am going out again over Thanksgiving week when my girlfriend from Canada comes down. Looks like I will be using some coyote spoons the next time. Today it was bucktails and green splatter back hootchies right on the bottom (that is when a shaker didn't take it on the way down).

Thanks for all of the info!

Mike, you might also try a Silver Horde or Tomic plug in the 5" model. Best colors are white and white/red combinations. I have also been doing well on a black with glow belly plug. I use the plugs when the shakers get too heavy. We were getting shakers but not that bad. I had to take the Coyote off the other day as the shakers were on everytime I went down.

Some of the old charters that are long gone in Edmonds used to fish Tomic 5" plugs almost exclusively out on the bar. I use the Tomic #603 in a 5" but the 84 in glow is a good one too. You won't have nonstop action on shakers but if you fish the bottom 10' of the water column you will eventually get nice fish.

Grandpa, a few (Morning Star etc) still fish them alot. I still fish plugs more than anything else but won't hesitate to change out if needed. I was remembering the other day when you could go to Possession and see 6 to 8 small charters trolling for Kings in the summer and blackmouth in the winter. Gary is about the only one left from that bunch.

Boy I remember those days as I was usually out there right beside them. Then it was always when you felt like fishing you would go...not when it is open or not.

Nice weather and a great boat ride on Saturday but no keepers for me from the Racetrack or up in 8-1 at Elger Bay.

We hit two on Friday with 602 & 603 plugs. Once we pulled the spoons and put the plugs on the shakers disappeared and we were able to actually fish.

Love those big plugs anytime of year. Pounded fish all summer at Neah Bay on them, only problem was getting past the silvers to the kings....
