Tomorrow I'm taking some out of town family to the Skagit, I am planning on launching at Rockport. I am familiar with the area but I haven't been up there yet this year. I won't have trouble getting into a few chumskis but I would also like to get into some coho. We don't have too much time, that's why I'm asking for info(shortcut). Due to the lack of experience of the people I'm going to be with I will probably be sitting on plugs/divers, maybe anchored and drifting but not 'doggin. I'll be in the green Willie with Yamaha tiller steering.

Skagit at Rockport is clear. We stopped by the 101 hole above Rockport in mid-morning but it was being pounded pretty hard.

Talked to a fisherman who had been there at dawn and he reported a lot of fully colored silvers there so downstream from Rockport should be holding both Chums and Silvers.

Further downstream, midway between Woolley and Concrete on the south highway we found lots of chums and saw a few silvers. The silvers were bright with a rose tint, the chums in full spawning color.

My buddy and I hooked about 20 chums in one slot with cerise yarn jigs and prawns fished under dinks. Thankfully we didn't have to land them all.

Couple of other guys hooked chums on Dick Nites, or corkies and yarn just below us.

A beautiful day on the river.

Well, we has a nice morning on the river. Landed 8 or 10 chums, a couple were real bright, plenty good enough to keep if one was so inclined, (I'm not). Only got one coho, a smallish buck in good shape, maybe 4 or 4 1/2 pounds. The people from out of town had a great time, seems the chums are more fun to catch than the Illionois crappie they are used to. He asked in the morning "why are the rods so heavy?, Why is your net so big?" All questions were answered within a half hour. By the way, we landed no fish until his bananas were thrown over the side.
