I am looking to plan a vacation next summer for the family to the San Juan's. Figured I better get to it now for high season books up quick. Thinking of either Orcas or Lopez. I was there 6 or 7 years ago, but camped. Not bringing the boat. Looking for a nice family resort with kitchen, near water and marina for possible charter fishing, diving(Brrr!), biking, and fun. 2 teenagers with us. Any recommendations?

Islander Lopez was awesome back in the day. We used to base our scuba operations outa there.
Go abolone diving, get scallops, clams, crab all in the same dive, shoot fish too, got a 23lbs cabazone there in that area.

Before diving we put shrimp potys down which we would empty and rebait just before going in but not before trolling around for salmon.

The resort was nice with a resturant and bar, lots-o-fun there. No idea if they still exsist but it is worth checking into for sure.

West Beach Resort on Orcas is nice. They have a bunch of cabins right on the beach. I've always had my boat when I was there. To me it's touture to have water right there and no way to get on it and fish. I like Orcas because you can head over to the state park for good hikes and swimming, and there are several good places to eat in East Sound - something for everyone.

ran my 19ft starcrat to the islander resort in fishermans bay on lopez this summer. they have great rooms that face the sunset over the bay. a nice resturant and bar with a house band that was really good. there is a pool and hot tub for the guest. lots to do and see. they rent small boats so you can go crabbing and also kyaks and bikes. close to town ( what there is of it). we really enjoyed are weekend there. also deer habor on orcas looks great. cabins just up the hill from a great marina.
