I was wondering if chum will hit green spinners or spoons. I get to fish during my lunch as long as the tides are right. most people just use the corkies and ripp method, but I was wondering what else would work. I work by mud bay and its full of chums right now.... thanks

SundayMonday, you have to get rid of that avatar. I'm too busy to sit here staring at the screen all evening!

I second the jig under a float when the Pitt Bulls of the river are in thick---you'll get alot less foul hooks w/ a jig. Tip the jig w/ a small piece of fresh prawn and your arms will be sore from all the Chum you catch.

I really don't have much preferance, as long as I have fun. I have only worked in Olympia for a year or so , and I can't think of any thing better to do than fish. Besides, I would like to get my hands on some chum eggs for steelhead'n later this winter. I have always done pretty well on chum eggs in Feb on the Puyallup.

The problem with jigs is the limited space to fish. I am hitting a creek mouth as it dumps into mud bay, very tight with plenty of pine tree coverage. But if I can con my boss into letting me take a extra long lunch, (an hour is'nt long enough when your fishing) I like to try jigs..

Tried the pink/cerise jig with the prawn tail "kicker" tonight. Had great success...went 1 for 2 on COHO! A fat 13.5 lb. hen grabbed it first, and gave a great accounting of herself in a battle to the beach (of which there was very little at this spot). Second one hit on the next cast to the same spot...looked like about a 15 lb. buck, but he came unbuttoned right at the beach. Thanks guys for the great tips! Mike p.s. There were mucho Chum in the neighborhood, and not one even looked at it..

Funny how I seem to struggle in the fresh water for Coho during the run but as soon as I stop fishing for them or the Coho run is supposedly over I start catching them. A few years ago I caught a mint Coho over Christmas break. A friend c&r'd one several years ago on New Years Day. And yes, Chum will hit a green spinner!
