Hi, I have heard and read about the damage caused by logging and other activites resulting in silt entering the wasterways. Is there any requirements for silt fencing to be placed as a barrier between the logging site and a river. There is a requirent to place DOT grade silt fence with wire reinforcement on certain construction sites to protect waterways. I was interested in any knowledge of requirements for this while logging-- thanks

There are laws that must be followed in this regard under the State Forest Practices Act. If you are working in Oregon you might also check with the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality or in Washington the Department of Ecology.

If you are going to be doing any work within the stream there will be additional permitting requirements in both states.
