Hello all. Somewhat of a newbie here, although I did post a question about Idaho sometime back (and thanks - my kids beat me 1-0 with a decent rainbow. The brat).

Anyhow, I was looking for something to fish during my lunch in Tumwater and I "discovered" this bloody river called the Deschutes. Fished it today. A few casts in and boom - had a nice cut on and lost him. I was @ pioneer park.

So I'm addicted. The problem is that, according to the regs, it ends tomorrow unless I'm upstream from the bridge.

And I cannot figure out, barring taking full waders, how I can do that. Is there access across the street? Is it a mud bog (I have to not come back looking like I've been to kennedy creek)!

Also, I just used some eggs under a float. The cut played with it a bit, but never took. Should I use a glo worm or spinner?

thanks. This is a great board!

I've fished the Deschutes all my life and I'm glad you found yourself a nice cutt. Those buggers are probably having a field day with the king eggs right about now. Anyhow, this time of year you will probably need a decent pair of waders to access the H20 upstream from the park. If I was you, I'd simply park in the park and walk upstream. Some guys park at the end of the deadend road (across Henderson Blvd across from the park) and walk the trail that goes upstream. However, not being one to encourage trespassing, I'd stick to the river and walk up that way. You will definitely need to bust some brush but you will also be into some prettier water than below the bridge. However, don't expect much more action from this point on. I usually stop fishing about now anyway. Those cutties tend to shut off with the colder/higher water. They'll be there but it takes a lot more work to get their attention from this point on.
Good luck!

Look at your regs again. It closes for Salmon Nov 30th. Trout and steelhead are open through March 31st. Anything above Henderson BLVD is selective gear rules. ALso access above there is hard to find. You either need to get permission, or wade the river? Good luck, it is a godd little river. I just wish it had more steelhead in it!

Geez. Thanks for the reg review (I hate the bloody things by the way). Anyhow you are correct - open for trout through 3/31.

Thanks! I need something to do rather than sit around!
