Plan on fishing the Bogy this next week... what is consider the best set up for bank fish. Size hook / leader length / best weight.
Not looking for spot to fish but just looking for best gear to prepare before heading out the front door... Don't want to arrive with completely the wrong gear...

Much will dpend upon the water conditions ... right now, it's half-in / half-out and raging.

Next week, it might be low and clear and just a fraction of the flow right now.

Shrimp is always a good bet ... bring all the different ways to rig it and you should be good to go \:\)

Bob,

We were thinking of fishing the Bogey tomorrow. If it's "raging", then should we not bother? It looked like it might be coming into fishable shape by then.

Thanks for the heads up.

From the looks of the gage, the flows might drop in decent by Saturday or Sunday, that's contingent on precip though. Color is always the wild card, if an Elk pi$$es in the river up stream the vis goes way down. Keep watching the gage and weather... I think it fishes best at around 28' or so.
Bob has it right, shrimp drifted, floated or behind a diver will cover the bases

Thanks for the info. Looks like the river level will be closer to 29' than 28' tomorrow. Worth a shot. This weekend isn't an option for us and it will be more crowded on that river than I-5, I bet.

Definetly go out their and fish, fish the fast shallow water 5-10 feet out, with either eggs and shrimp with a large corky and 16 inch leader. Anywhere that those fish travel is a good bet, close to shore, that is where they will be. Lets hear how you did tomorrow.

Ok, here is our report:

Got to the hatchery and could NOT BELIEVE how many trailers were in the lot. Got on the river and the drift right above the hatchery was packed with boats. The shoreline down from the hatchery to the Calawah was packed with fishermen. And, pretty much all the way down past Tall Timbers.

So, we started fishing just downstream from Tall Timbers. I was disappointed, but the late bird gets only what the early birds left for them, eh? Once we were past those areas, the traffic thinned to pretty much nil and we had a great day on the water.

The fishing was good. We boated three for three of us. Seemed to be about the average for the boats we talked to. There were lots of fish to go with the crowds. Typical sized fish 4-6 pounds. Two were super chrome with sea lice and one had a tinge of red.

That's the report. The river color was good. Visability was about 2'.
