You OP and Sound guys get to see these things everyday!
But those of us who live down south specifically the southern OR coast don't!

But yesterday dad and I managed to get out and look what he found.
21# hatchery broodstock buck

caught side drifting a red puff ball, eggs and a 2# gami on a TH 1024s

We could have some big fish in local westside rivers........IF, we used BIG MALES AND FEMALES for some of brood Stock and kept them separated for the "normal 7 - 14 lb" brood stock fish.

Anyone that fish's the west side "creeks" knows which has big fish.

Just so glad I had the opportunty to catch quite a few, 20+ lb, before the numbers got so low. Just so you know, most were caught in the 70's and 80's. Biggest was 26 lb 7 ozs. off the Queets, then a 23 lb 11 ozs. off a local river "that never placed in the TU derby" we had as that time. Still can't believe that......
Even got to "hook and line" some brood stock fish that were "big".

Hope all have a Merry Christmas and may the New Year bring "tight lines for all"

Nice fish TH! Now that's a bonker!

Nope, don't see hatchery fish around here like that. You see, up here for the last 30 years weve continually taken the eggs and sperm from the surviving hatchery fish that a: can make it through the nets and b: don't bite anything once the reach the terminal. The result: you get a fish that is about 4 lbs and doesn't bite worth a crap.

Although I did get one today......

I posted these last year, but since we're talking about SW washington's broodstook, their worth looking at again.

My little buddy with a 20-pound Humptulips fishy.

My little buddy with an 18-pound Nooch fishy.

He caught these on back to back days while I struggled for a hind tit. \:D

And, let us not forget the grandest of all hatchery fish ever landed: Tim Zimmerman's 30-pound monster.

They're out there men. Go get-em. \:\)

WOW...those are some fishies! (all of them!).

SO, probably a dumb question...but why do they call it a broodstock fish? Is it because that is the one they wanted at the hatchery? Did ya take it there so they could get the good "stuff" out of him? (might not have been an option...beats me.. )

All in all...those are awesome fish, and "someday" I hope to tie into one of those hogs....just for the battle...would hate to kill such a beautiful fish, unless the hatchery needed him/her.(or is that not realistic?)

Mike
