Do artifical egg clusters, i.e. goey-bobs, smelly jelly eggs, etc. work as well as the real thing when float fishing? If the water has poor visibility would I be better off using fake eggs over a jig?

I'm new to jig fishing, yes I plan on attending the Jan 8 seminar at 3-rivers, and no I don't have any real eggs in the freezer yet to use. Mostly curious if the fake eggs are any good.

goey bobs work great. i mainly use them when rivers are real low and clear and bait is
not allowed. i usually throw on a goey after i
have fished thru a pool with a pink worm .

up here in B.C. (not blue creek) I fish mostly rivers with a bait ban and the number one item to use float fishing is a Gooey Bob, then followed by a pink worm. The best color was called "BC Orange" but Luhr Jensen only made the true right color for a couple of years. Then they have followed with a color close but not "just right". Try them with a bit of white or chartruese yarn hanging over them. They also work great in fast moving "pocket" water. The best size overall is #3 (middle size) but have also done well on the larger "magnum" bobs.

Thanks. They still sound like a clear water option, similar to what a jig might work best in. I guess what I'm still wondering is if they would perform as well as real eggs do in "dirty water".

Gooey bobs also work killer in real fast water. The fish aren't keyed on the scent as much in fast water as they are in slow water where they have time to inspect your bait. If I find a pod of fish in fast water and they are on a egg bite, more often that not will change to a gooey bob and do just as well.

Check out the "boots R us" thread to see a better pic of that "skankasaurus". You'll even find an Old Chum or two.
