It all depends how fancy you want to get... my favorite for backtrolling plugs is an HSR-1021C Loomis in GL3, but for Kwiks with a jet diver I prefer a Lami 9' Salmon Moocher. The Loomis has caught everything including chinook, steelhead, walleyes, a 6' Sturgeon... you name it. If you're limited on how many rods you want to carry, the HSR is great because you can also drift fish with it.

That said, you can often do as well or better with a less expensive fiberglass rod for pulling plugs since it seems to give a good lure action and lets the the fish inhale the plug a little easier.

Nuts, good rods for Backtrolling Kwikies or Jet Divers is SA1026 or 1086 or DR1024, but for pullin Hot n Tots they are too heavy! I think personally that the 1021 is too light for ur big Kwikies, but awsome for steelie plugs or Hot n Tot Bait diver! HS 1023 would probably a good medium for both! My 2 cents! Chris

maybe this sounds goofy but what I did was order eglass casting rods from Cabelas. They are 7 footers. I can see the rod tips easly from the rowers seat (no neck strain) and they show good plug action at the rod tips. They are rated 8-20 pound. Cost was 29.00each

depending where and exactly what you are fishing for a couple of options that i like are 1. the new lamiglas esprite 1 piece 8ft rod rated 15-40 lbs,

another one that would work good is the lamiglas G1000 series G 1303-T 7’ 6” rated for 10-30lb test.

good luck
