Hey all......

I work in the Medical field and am getting so disgusted with the Medicare abuse I see.... I have heard lately how they need to earmark another thirty-two billion on top of what is already in the system to keep it solvent..... Here is the big question I propose....

Why in the hell is social security and medicare STILL going to the wealthy retired? It just burns me up to have my Mom on one hand not be able to afford her meds, yet my Dad (divorced her when I was a babe) is not Bill Gates but is what I consider wealthy, and recieves medicare and SS retirement...... I know the AARP has a lot of pull due to it's $$ and PAC's, but I think that retired wealthy people accepting what is nothing more than welfare for retired people appalling and sickening. They ought to be ashamed of themselves as far as I am concerned...... My Dad says "I paid into the system and they owe it to me no matter how much money I have" but that is total BS.... I have paid into the federal system since I was in my teens and does that mean that I am owed welfare/medicaid no matter what I earn? NO!
If I fall into a certain income category, then I may qualify... Should be the same for SS and Medicare...... The thought of retired people making $70k or more a year getting SS or medicare just does not make sense..... If they would only give it to those truly in need, the system would have a surplus and people like my Mom could then get their meds included....

For any forum readers that fall into the wealthy-welfare-takers category I take this opportunity to say "Shame on you".....

How much does Medicare pay out yearly in insulin and related items to diabetic seniors??
If the drug companies finally came up with a cure for diabetes instead of making billions off of treating the symptoms there might be some money left over for people like your mom.

Diabetes is just one thing. Look at how much they make every year off of the common cold or the flu. If they'd put some effort out in stopping it Medicare and insurance companies wouldn't be paying so much in treating it.

It all boils down to this - I'm right, everyone else is wrong, and anyone who disputes this is clearly a dumbfuck.

I bet if she moved to China she'd get the same amount of coverage as your dad. ;\)

Got this from a friend:

(This is worth reading. It is short and to the point.)

Perhaps we are asking the wrong questions during election years.

Our Senators and Congresswomen do not pay into Social Security and, of course, they do not collect from it.

You see, Social Security benefits were not suitable for persons of their rare elevation in society. They felt they should have a special plan for themselves. So, many years ago they voted in their own

benefit plan.

In more recent years, no congress person has felt the need to change it. After all, it is a great plan.

For all practical purposes their plan works like this:

When they retire, they continue to draw the same pay until they die.

Except it may increase from time to time for cost of living adjustments.

For example, former Senator Byrd and Congressman White and their wives may expect to draw $7,800,000.00 (that's Seven Million, Eight-Hundred Thousand Dollars), with their wives drawing $275,000.00 during the last years of their lives.

This is calculated on an average life span for each of those two Dignitaries.

Younger Dignitaries who retire at an early age, will receive much more during the rest of their lives.

Their cost for this excellent plan is $0.00. NADA....ZILCH....

This little perk they voted for themselves is free to them. You and I pick up the tab for this plan. The funds for this fine retirement plan come directly from the General Funds;

"OUR TAX DOLLARS AT WORK"!

>From our own Social Security Plan, which you and I pay (or have paid) into, -every payday until we retire (which amount is matched by our employer)- we can expect to get an average of $1,000 per month after retirement.

Or, in other words, we would have to collect our average of $1,000 monthly benefits for 68 years and one (1) month to equal Senator Bill Bradley's benefits!

Social Security could be very good if only one small change were made.

That change would be to jerk the Golden Fleece Retirement Plan from under the Senators and Congressmen. Put them into the Social Security plan with the rest of us ... then sit back and watch how fast they would fix it.

If enough people receive this, maybe a seed of awareness will be planted and maybe good changes will evolve.

How many people can YOU send this to?

Keep this going clear up thru the 2004 election!! We need to be heard
