(AP) -- President Bush's decision Tuesday to allow his national security adviser, Condoleezza Rice, to testify publicly before the commission investigating the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks reversed earlier White House insistence that she would only appear privately.
Some previous Bush reversals in the face of criticism:
# He argued a federal Department of Homeland Security wasn't needed, then devised a plan to create one.
# He resisted a commission to investigate Iraq intelligence failures, but then relented.
# He also initially opposed the creation of the independent commission to examine if the 2001 attacks could have been prevented, before getting behind the idea under pressure from victims' families.
# He opposed, and then supported, a two-month extension of the commission's work, after the panel said protracted disputes over access to White House documents left too little time.
# He at first said any access to the president by the commission would be limited to just one hour but relaxed the limit earlier this month.

Yes, this is news. It was reported by A.P. nationally.
There were actually two points to the above posting. One is that while Bush continues to hammer away at Kerry for waffling, he has done more than his share of it. Two we need to remember that this President did NOT want to from a Dept of Homeland Security and did not want to have a 9/11 commission look into his handling of the terrorism problem. Let’s watch and see what the bipartisan commission says.
I think we should roundly condemn ANY politician demo. or rep. That is found to be asleep at the switch. Does make you wonder though why Clinton and Gore are willing to testify with NO strings attached while Bush has fought it tooth and nail and even now will only go with Cheany at his side.

:p Word of the day: awry { ah*wry }, adverb, adjective 1. In a position that is turned or twisted toward one side; askew. 2. Away from the correct course; amiss. 3. Aside from the line of truth, or right reason; unreasonable or unreasonably; perverse or perversely

That's a lie. How about some condemnation about the 8 years of Clinton sleeping while crap was being blown up all over the world! You try to hid your one sided ideologies by writing something about condemning both sides then come out trying to dig again. I really don't want to get into the whole Clinton saga again cause that will be useless and never ending. Why should Clinton or Bore care about going in front of the commish? Who is it going to hurt and who is it going to help? Give me a break. Stick to writing about fish… At least someone will buy that BS

Pmartin - In hindsight I can see where it looks like Clinton did nothing about the attacks on American interests during his tenure. However, he did as much as he could considering the flak he received from the GOP and public. It was a completely different mindset prior to 9/11 in both parties. After the Mogadishu incident, the American public, nor the opposing party, would have allowed either Clinton or Bush to invade Afganistan prior to 9/11. As far as Bush appearing before the commisson, I think it's a mistake for him to do so with Cheney holding his hand. From the beginning many have perceived Bush as just being a Cheney puppet (just like Hillary and Bill), and this would be a great opportunity to vanquish that perception. Many have said that Bush has great courage and cajones - this is a perfect opportunity for him to throw his cajones on the table and plead his case if he's got the courage to do so on his own.

H20 - Aren't you too young to remember the 60's and 70's when waffle and waffling had a more desirable meaning. Ahh! The days of flowers, love and tuna sandwiches.
Too bad Koochi Kerry and Hanoi Jane were too into dissing the man to appreciate what we had.

Bush waffles? I thought this thread might be about a new breakfast food, like Reagan French Toast or Nixon Pancakes or a real good one.........Clinton Bent-Banana creme-filled crepes.
