Couple of random thoughts - 9/11 Commission

I heard something new today that got me wondering. It seems like even though the Commissions business is done in July, the White House will be unable to vet the document until after the election. Seems like an awfully long time to discern the security classification of the document. Wonder what they feel they need to hide from the electorate? Wonder how long it will take some opponent of GW to leak selected portions of the report to help "educate" the public? Wonder how many voters will operate under the principle of "Fool me once, shame on you, Fool me 20 times, shame on me!"
My other thought, can one of the Bush supporters on this board please explain the benefit of having GW and Cheney appear together before the Commission? Maybe I am so prejudiced that I am blind, but it sure does seem like the only reason is to have Cheney and Bush check with each other before they answer so that their stories are consistent. What am I missing here?

I asked a buddy of mine who is a diehard Bush supporter (he believes Clinton should be tried for treason) the question about Bush & Cheney together at the Commission. His answer, "GW needs adult supervision". When pressed for a better answer, he said that he couldn't come up with one. C'mon guys, PM, Plunk, The King somebody should be able to answer the question.

I think the administration believes what your friend believes, Eddie. And I think it's a bad political move on Bush's part. Be patient, though. The other guys will get back with ya after checking with Drudge, National Review, Weekly Standard, and FDD. The scripts aren't quite prepared yet.

I think that starting at the beginning is an awful waste of time. As you stated already you are already so prejudice that you are blind. I really don't understand what it is exactly you are asking? If you are already an ignorant, blind, prejudice liberal what else needs explaining. I commend you for coming out and at least saying what we already know about libs. That's the first step, you are doing good. There may be some help for you. But, to sit here and ask a question and want to debate something that you have already come out and stated that you will not listen or take into account anything they try to debate is, as you said, ignorant. What's the point, to get a couple of your lib bro's together to try and mach and make fun without considering another's point of view??? It's just like all you libs, you preach equal rights and fairness but you are the first one's to stomp someone's head into the ground if they oppose your point of view. Hope you can understand, now the rest of your libocons can have fun pickin the fleas of each others back and laugh about how us who walk upright live... BTW Here are some fact that may sting a little so enter at your own risk Fact\'s GH, I guess it would be okay if I perused NBC, CBS, ABC, CNN, MSNBC or just about any other media to find the news? Maybe even the PI or the times? I think it's pretty funny the along come FOX who is admittedly more conservative and all the libs jump all over it. One station out there and you guys are all over it. I think you are all just mad that it's not 100% controlled by the left anymore. As far as NR, WS, FDD never read them.

Golly PM, What have I done to light your fire? Let's start with this simple question: What benefit is there to having the President & Vice President testify together at the 9/11 hearing? Obviously, my blind comment was somewhat tongue in cheek, but I really can find no benefit to the Administration or the Commission to testifying in this way. Maybe you can see something that I cannot.

Q And in terms of getting the information to the commission in a timely fashion, as important as that is, it seems that if the President testifies for an hour or two, which is what we talked about, and if the Vice President were to testify for an hour or two, we're only talking about a difference of two or three hours in the commission getting its information. So what difference does that make?
MR. McCLELLAN: You're talking about a sitting President and Vice President of the United States, as well. Man, you'd think he could spare at lleast a couple of hours away from Crawford, you know, just to help out with National Security and all.

Grandpa wrote: What is the sin in GW and Cheney meeting together?.....what is your goal in complaining about it? Because they are keeping some big conspiracy secret that you want to REVEAL to the world about how they could have prevented 9/11? Come on boys get another iece of rotten meat to fight over. Grandpa, let's see if we can get some reasonable dialogue going here, may not be likely, but a couple old warhorses like us should be able to do it. 1. I don't know that I believe GW and Cheney meeting together is a sin, it is certainly unusual and for those who are predisposed to conspiracy theories, it certainly provides fodder for them. 2. My goal in complaining about it - First, it is understanding. There may be an excellent reason for it that I am missing. If there is not an excellent reason then I am pointing out that if our President can not stand alone in front of a Commission, how can we expect him to deal with the other, more dangerous issues that he must face? 3. One thing I am pretty certain about - I do not blame GW for 9/11. I don't think that any Prez could have prevented 9/11. Let me go one step further. I thought GW reacted to 9/11 with grace under pressure and provided leadership that was desperately needed. Clearly his best moment. 4. I prefer not to fight over rotten meat. So, I hope that the GW supporters on this board can provide the answers I seek. I am hoping that you can be more convincing than Scott McClellan (sp.?) was. Can you hear me now?

I don't buy the "effecient use of time" thing. We're only talking a couple hours, max. He spends A LOT of time in Crawford, I'd think he could spare a couple hours.

Wildfishlover - It may be an effecient use of time. That is a plausible explanation. In regards to the Commission being a "partisan blame game" - I know the Commission is composed of 5 Republicans and 5 Democrats. Not sure how they can be partisan, but you never know. Do I hate Bush? No, I don't know the man so there is no way I can hate him. Do I believe that his policies are flawed? You bet. Do I believe that he shouldn't be reelected? Amen. (Did you like that Don Rumsfeld dialogue at the end)

Yeah, you're probably right. I did in the beginning, but they - they being the entire cabinet - took me down the wrong path. I told you before that I think Bush has some of the greatest of intentions, but the people surrounding him are just plain wrong.
