Actually if a person is married to a military retiree over 10 years of their military service, they are entitled to 50% of the retirement pay, even if that person re-marrys. There is also an option for "Survival Benefits" which entitles the spouse to continue collecting military pension should the retiree die.

So I guess the estate laws do recognize the spouse in military service.

Pretty hard to imagine a military spouse being a big advocate of war when it's their loved one that is sacrificed. Therefore a military spouse could hardly be called a chickenhawk.

The miltary macho nonsense you guys wear on your sleeves is pathetic. Most real soldiers serve without bragging about themselves. There are more people who did not put on a uniform than those who did and do and I suspect a bunch of them have intelligent ideas that may differ from yours. If being in the military was a prerequisite to serving in government we would exclude alot of good people. This chicken hawk thing is so Michael Moore and so tired.

How is that low. It's called disclosure. If you ask people for money as a charitable donation you have a resposibility to outline the goal and abojective of the charity along witht he financial details of where the donataions go. I certainly would not donate to a charitable cause if I knew the family had the means or more to meet the obligation . There are many more people out there that cannot.

I retired with a modest savings that I immediately invested into non-liquid assets, if you must know.

In deciding (my choice)to do so I took a six+, potentially more, figure loss.

Btw my FIL has MS and is paralyzed he belongs to a support group and has acess to great deals on the equipement such as the van you mentiuon. Nope. The compensation is for the service. Congress decided that a spouse served with the military member and thus is eligible for 50% of the pension.

Actually, she retired before me so I guess I'm riding her coattails.
