It's a well know fact that of the people who attend religious services regularly and say that their faith plays an important role in their life are planning on voting for George Bush by a considerable margin.

That's why the left is so concerned about losing that demographic and drawing cartoons
and making up statements and voices to alarm/scare easily manipulated people.

If the left is such a strong supporter of the 1st Amendment that gives people like Bill Hicks the right to publically mock God and those who believe in him---Why shouldn't those who DON'T mock God and who happen to believe in something bigger than themselves be allowed to exercise their 1st Amendment rights as well?

Where are they being denied that right RB?
I'll tell you what is wrong though Jerry Falwell is using his tax exempt status to endorse Bush! That is against the law!
I'll tell ya one thing. If I considered myself a devout Christian I would be ashamed to have Falwell and Robertson representing me!

Stew,

I agree with you on the Tax exempt thing--but in all fairness, no group (including those on the left) that enjoy that status should not be making political endorsements. The way they get around it is by saying that they're not speaking for the group--just for themeselves. It's a pretty slipery slope.

As for your other comment, IMHO Robertson and Falwell aren't in the same league. I think very highly of PR--I can't say the same about JF.

No one speaks for an entire group of people or their side of the isle.

I could post a bunch of ACLU/NAMBLA statements and suggest that they represent the majority of your sides views. The fact is you're probably as disgusted by NAMBLA's assertions as I am.

Rory

I believe this statement may be true but not because Christians believe in anything Bush is doing. A lot of Christians I know will vote Republican strictly on the abortion issue.

I don't have a dog in that fight, I think there are alot of Christians on both sides of the political isle that identify themeselves as pro-choice. It's a free country and that's their right.

However, I see alot more people on the left that mock believers on the right than I see of those on the right mocking people on the left who (as is their right) don't believe.

I believe it's the hostilty towards the believers themseves and their beliefs that help to mostly frame their voting demographic.

"Do the evangelicals support Israel solely so the 3rd temple can be built, and we can rush headlong towards the 'end times'"

That premise is a joke as much as those that believe that you can petitiion the lord with prayer. It shows a complete lack of understanding of the works of the bible. The problem lies not with God or the bible the problem lies with apostate churchs and their dogma. It's the equivelent of chopping off your little toes and fingers to speed up evolution. As assinine as that sounds it will not stop some people but to suggest that they represent the mainstream of believers of evolution is absurd.

4salt,

Not saying that at all . Most have a "google "view of function and role of prayer.
I will leave you to research the true intent of prayer :p

KK,

I would have to read PR's words from that book in their entire context to be able to comment on them.

I don't have the book you cited, but I just ordered one of his more recent books this morning--'Bring it on'--He address' some often asked questions in that book with a biblical perspective.

As for the ADL, they were among the most vocal against Gibson's 'The Passion of the Christ'--whom PR defended and encouraged people to see. I think anyone that watched that movie will agree that the Romans come across alot worse than some of the Jewish elders that encouraged Pilot---In the movie it was the Peter (a Jewish man) that empathized with Jesus and helped him walk and carry the cross and begged the Romans to stop flogging him. I personally don't know of anyone that came out of that movie looking to hold any group of people today accountable for what a very small handfull of their ancestors did over 2000 years ago. I still love Jews and Italian food. \:D

There are just as many Jews who recognize PR as a friend and supporter of Jews and Israel--Kristol(s), Michael Medved, David Horowitz, Rabbi Daniel Lappin and Rabbi Schmuelly to name just a few.

If you want to get into a biblical discussion about the Jewish state of Israel's right to exist---It doesn't start with it's 1948 establihment--it starts with God's promise to Abraham and the two sons he had (Isaac and Ishmael).

My support for Israel is not based on any pre/post raptue theory--I simple believe they have a right to a homeland---so do the Palestinians. However, they've turned down every settlement offer that has been made to them though.

It's the Islamic people that have repeatedly tried to drive Jews in to the sea---not the other way around. Every time the surrounding Islamic nations have tried to terminate the Jewish state of Israel--they found out pretty fast how tough the Jewish people can be when needed. They have sought to co-exist with the P's and offered them settlements, but they P's want ALL or nothing. Until they're are willing to give a little like the Jews (which is unlikely to happen) we'll continue to see problems in the region.

For anyone out there that hasn't looked into this much and wonders why all the BS--Ask yourself, which side hates and seeks to kill every member of the other side who has the nerve to draw breath? Which side is looking to simply co-exist?

Now I'll tell you what I think.

I think those things in that list are Christian values. I also think if you ever found a candidate that embraces ALL of those values and lives by them, even a radical muslim extremist would vote for him/her.

Those of you that claim to be Christian and behave like pigs should be ashamed of yourselves.

Gosh Marsha don't you know that God is on George Bush's side?
If you don't believe that then just ask Pat Robertson or Jerry Falwell!
Do you think maybe God told Falwell or Robertson he would "strike them dead" if they didn't get Dubya elected just as he did if Oral Roberts didn't raise $8 million a few years back?

Hey Stew,

If you want to really see/read something Pat Robertson says watch the '700 Club' or check out his website: http://www.cbn.com

Fictional cartoons are nice and sometimes funny, but they're not real.

PS--Re-read the post you quoted that suggested someone 'jumped the shark' on civility
