So long story short... While out fishing this year had to make a couple of collect phone calls ( 1-800 call ATT) did not work... So, I get a bill from OPTICOM. 3 min call was 23.45 and a 2 min call was 19.55 for a total of 43.00 for 5 min of phone calls....

What crap... I think phone sex costs about 1/3 of that...

At any rate it was phone sex because I got screwed hard. Going to call them up and chew some ass.

Similar story, friend of mine was leaving Friday Harbor to go fishing and was 5-10 minutes out of port when he made a cell phone call, talked for about 5 minutes, month later he gets his phone bill with a $33 charge for a call made from Canada, he was never in Canada and upon investigation found out that call that was well within U.S. waters, connected to a cell tower on Vancouver Is. after a long fight he got it removed from his bill but it was a major hassle.

Called Quest and they stopped payment on the bill. They said OPTICOM would have to take me to court to get their money... but doubted that they would. Thye said companys like that just count on people paying the bill without looking at it.. but would never tell a judge that they charge people 10 bucks a min for any kind of phone service

Thanks to a real special politician that deregulated the phone company's to create more competition which in turn was supposed to lower our phone bills instead it just opened the door for a bunch of fly by night company's that charge ridiculous rates trying to stay in business against company's they cant compete with.

Be careful when and where you use that pay phone or any other phone as many businesses are contracting with these fly by night providers for the placement of pay phones or phone service and as a result they get a kickback from the provider on these phone on every call placed on that phone. So that Pay Phone you use may not necessarily be an AT&T, Qwest, Sprint, or local server. It may be from one of these fly by night prphone services that looks like the local provider. Hotels and Motels are really big offenders with their phone services.
