1 gig should be plenty. I would chose Vista or a least Media Center as your OS. Be sure that you have a card reader included. Vista is a big leap for operating a Media Center.

Dell sucks big time. They have lost huge market share by not keeping up. Chose your own cards and a build your own. It will cost more to build your own but the experience is priceless. That way Dell want be able to slip crap in with the feature's they hightlight. HP has a decent product and have moved ahead with price and quality.

Get a Mac.

Been in this business since 1989 and the Mac is my PRIMARY desktop computer. Wouldn't have it any other way.

Why is that???

Hmmmm?

If you want a Dell, you can sweep the remnants of mine off my driveway where I pounded it into dust with a sledgehammer while yelling, "you want a piece of me?, You @#$%&!" I think Dells make good anchors for small boats. Parker is probably right.

Dell use to make um good. Now they suck! Cutting costs and quality, but not price. Most Mac users feel as parker does, nothing new there. I loved my 5000D but don;t use it anymore. Nothing against Mac's, but the future of computer OS's, has Windows dominating Worldwide. It seems people are voting with their wallet's in the market place.

There are really good choices out there. One just has to be more informed on the technology that goes into todays computer. For the price of a top of the line Dell, one can get considerably more. If we become more informed and can comparison shop by looking at the component parts (Graphic Card, Memory, MHZ, CPU, Fan Wattage, Gigs/Hard Drive, OS, Sound Card, TV card, etc., etc., etc., before purchasing we will come out with a better product. Look at some of the online store's such as http://www.tigerdirect.com and other's while doing a price check for similar computers or components parts. If you do, you will come out way ahead. Computer technology is changing rapidly. They are becoming faster and faster, as they are now the operating brain of multiple devices included in our Media Centers of the future.

Compatibility will eventually become more of an issue, as product developer's start to take sides. Sorta like Bata Max and VHS, Blue Ray and Hi Definition devices. Which one will eventually be sent to the junk yard, is the question? Anybody want to buy and old Bata max video device? Just teasing! Anyway time will tell.

My pleasure Stam. Another way to unlock that chest mess is to bring a combination of red wine and vodka to a slow simmer on your stove, let it cool slightly, then drink slowly with big nasal intakes. I'm not kidding. When I was a sophomore in highschool I got sick the day before the district track meet where I was to run the mile. My mother made me that drink that night and I ran a personal best the next day.

My running days are over Stam. After years of 5K, 10K, and other distances, the only time I run now is............from another marriage. I do play a ton racquetball though.

The scene in "Office Space" where the 3 guys kick the crap out of the printer is what I want to do to my office computer the day I retire. It just looks so liberating.
