A long lining operator has applied for a permit to operate from California to Washington for tunas, marlin, swordfish and all of the related bycatch. This is supposedly a test or trial basis, but you know as well as I, that if it is successful on their part more longlines will want to join in. Long lining is a particularly harmful type of fishing and there is lots of bycatch or waste associated with the practice (sound familiar to other styles of comm. fishing?)

Please take a moment and copy and send the sample letter, or write your own and help stop this attempt to longline in Washington again.
