Saw it last night. If you like visual movies, this is the one. You got to see it in the theatre. Dont take little kids. Lots of blood, gore, and eye candy. Not much of a plot but it dosent really need one.

Remember that the movie is made after a comic book, not actual history. In that case, it's good. I didn't know that until after I saw it and didn't like it. Now I like it better.

300? Do you mean as in the "300 Spartans?" I thought that was history, ya' know, the battle of Thermopoli, where 300 Spartan soldiers held off umpteen thousand Persians for about 3 days. Or not that 300?

It is historical but my business partner who's seen it (I haven't) said that the Spartans "uniform" in the movie looked like they would be more at home in a gay cruise. Not historically correct I assume.

Still want to see it though.

Yeah I noticed how those Hoplites somehow managed to survive melee combat sans armor for the sake of displaying thier smooth waxed chests.

(uh-- shorn men in loincloths....??)

I dont know if you guys have ever known any Greeks, but even the women have copious amounts of thick black bodyhair.

Another point worth mentioning is that The 300 Spartans weren't the only Greeks defending at Thermopolae, there were close to 1000 allies there that never seem to get any credit. The other point worth mentioning is that a fairly large portion of Xerxes' force was comprised of other Greek armies who allied together to put a stop to Sparta's shenanigans which rate right up there with War Crimes of the day.

I did a term paper on the event back in school.

The documentary about the real battle recently aired on the History Channel. What a great and interesting story.

Great flick....somewhat historically correct but with a comic book spin that I could have done without. Hollyweird in action!!! Not bad at all, though, overall. "Because only Spartan women give birth to real men".

Yea, it was pretty interesting until the monsters showed up and the dudes riding Rhino's. Kind of "Lord of the rings meets the history channel"..

Salmo, yes, it is a spin on the battle of Thermopolis. Comic book based on true history.

Gay uniforms and waxed chests? Monsters and rhinos? Maybe I'll pass on this one. I usually like movies that recreate historic battles. I thought Thermopolae (thanx for the spelling Irie) was one of those battles that's part of military course work at West Point. I remember reading about the study of famous battles as lessons in strategy, and thought that was one. Fascinating stuff for a non-military type like me.

Loved the quote from one of my friends who saw the flick:

"Speedos and Capes are NOT body armor."

"Dudity". "Way too much dudity...."

I'll pass on that one.

Are you guys a little homophobic perhaps? My son(hetero, just ask his hot girlfriend) saw the movie and said it was awesome. When you go to a movie............watch the movie for it's story, acting, direction, and cinematography, not whether a guy is wearing a speedo or not. By the way, was "Cool Hand Luke" a bad movie? 90 minutes of sweaty guys with no shirts on in a prison. Or how about "Braveheart"? The guys wore skirts(kilts) not body armor. Still a good movie.

And you know who else likes 300? My son-in-law who just left for Iraq for 16 months to serve our country. And he is a bad ass.

Notice the "homophobes" didn't seem to notice the female nudity in the film and only keyed their eye on the gay uniforms, waxed chests, and dudity. I though "homophobes" were scared to notice and critique what other men are wearing. Hmmmmmmm Interesting.

I have never laughed so hard in a theatre in my life. The hotel room scene I had to watch through my fingers, but like they said--there's something in it to offend EVERYONE.

I liked it to a point... but some of it was definitely over the top! There's some extremely crude humor and a 350 lb. naked fat dude in it.

Overall... I'd give it 2 1/2 stars.

It's out on DVD now.
