Just got into the world of large screen TV's, On Demand, Hi Def and DVR console. A whole new set of gadgets to learn and enjoy. Got myself a 37" LCD and hung it up on the wall in the "Rec Room". Now that the kids are old enough the "Rec Room" has finally emerged from years of being a "play room". Goodwill has had some good deposits the last few days.

One series we've enjoyed is Planet Earth in HD on Discovery HD Theatre. WOW! 5 years in the making and the scenes are awesome. The HD version is excellent. Anyone else taken a look at this series? You've got to see the seal being chased by a Great White. Hi speed camera turned 1 second of real life adventure in to 14 seconds of Hi Def gymnastics with the GW jumping out of the water at the seal. The seals actually turn into the shark's tail using it's agility to outwit the speed of the shark.

Totally. The only bad part is if you miss P E on it's first running you cant watch it in HD if you try to catch a re-run or get it On Demand.

I'm watching it to in HD with 5.1 stereo. Feels like you are right there. I believe that the discovery channel is broadcast in 1080i. I am curious as to which has the most HD channels, cable or Dish for the buck $$$? I have mellenium Digital and the bundle (Phone-internet-cable TV) plus the HD channels (only 18 to 20) & HBO for about $154.00 / month. What do you guys get with the Dish network package? How many H D channels and do you get HBO, Show Time, etc. for one set fee and compare cost with cable? Just curious?

Right now it is really confusing with all the new technology coming all at once. BTW, I have the new Vista Ultimate and it runs my Media Center much better than MCE. Vista is starting to grown on me. I have HDMI connection from my computer to my TV. My TV can then be a digital monitor with sharp images, while remote keyboard and mouse allows me mobility so that I am not forced to sit in front of the monitor screen.

Nice JLH, I've recently added Vista Ultimate as well but haven't got it hooked up to the new TV. Only so many things I can invest in at once.

Did you see the Ocean epsisode? There was a sweet scene with a school of baitfish swimming around a whale as a defense against some swarming tuna. Talk about the photographer being in the right place at the right time.

Other good channels are INHD, PBSHD, UHD and, of course, ESPN1 and 2. Look and sound great on my 55" 5.1. Natl Geo has an HD channel but so far my cable company hasn't picked it up.

That's really cool. Millenium broadcasts Versus in Analog.

"Peasantvision".

The word used to describe those who don't own and watch HDTV. ;\)

If it's not in HD, I pretty much don't watch it.

50" Samsung DLP II
Tivo HD III
Comcraptastic HD service.

Peasantvision is where I'm at then. Most of the terms above went right over my head. Home electronics now come with user's manuals the size of a college text book. I'm old school and don't read any user manual except as a last resort.

I'm trying to build a new house, and whenever it becomes my home, I intend to buy a new audio and video system. I'll have to post a pleas for help here, and you guys can tell me what the heck I should consider, cuz it's all Greek to me at this time.

Don't worry Salmo, it's not nearly as bad as all that fly fishing line weight and tippet stuff. \:\)
