Heading up north for a week in the 'elbow room only' Kenai. going to stay in Soldotna and Ninilchik.

Doing the guided fishing thing, so 1/2 days of fishing and the other half for gold panning, sockeye, sight seeing, etc.

Any cool "can't miss" attractions you'd like to share?

Thanks

Mike

If you get a chance run out to Homer and watch the "fishing" method used in the pit. Red and white bobber on the end of your line and a bare hook 2 to 3 feet from the end of the line. Very effective, I've caught a few there using that setup. Fish swim laps in the pit being chased by seals and sealions and run into your line, line pulls tight and the hook stickes the fish in the jaw.
Sockeye counts have been low and the late run component doesn't start getting counted until the 17 at the Russain river. Daily counts are posted on a board right near the bridge in Kasilof. Best of luck to you. I won't be going this year but have gone the past three. Last year was the worst year yet for sockeye and this one is supose to be the same.

Fever,
Headed for Soldotna tomorrow morning at 5:30 AM my self.
Other than fishing: (1) excellent tide for Razor Clams(Clam Gulch), (2) Good Time Charlie's in Soldotna, (3) Feeding the Bears at Russian River, (4) Snagging salmon in Homer at the "pond), all you have to do is set & watch, you might pee you pants while watching LOL. (5) Great American Bush Co. in Anchorage, (6) Crazy Horse in Anchorage if you are not faint of heart, (7) Trish Dish in Anchorage if you back is out of whack from battling those 70 lb + Kings.

I fly out on Sunday, taking 17 customers up for week of play. Raft's play list is very similar to ours, Homer, Soldotna, Bush Co. Almost forgot we're fishing too.

Go to the Riverside and dance/drool over all the hot chicks that actually live/visit Soldotna in the summer. Same with all the Espresso stands on the spur highway. As far as the fishing, it's pretty self expanatory. Either have a boat and know how to use it, or pay some jack-ass from Washington or Oregon to take you down the Kenai.
