No doubt there are a couple of you guys on here. I have been shooting my knight bighorn for only one year. Don't claim to be a expert elk hunter.
But I am looking to learn, anyone interested in taking a amature out in the field.
Hunting experience is limited, little bit of upland bird , little bit of duck, I have hunted Mulies in Northern Ca. (x3a,x3b when drawn) I hunted down there with a camp of guys that you had to be invited into. Group has been together for 30+ years.
Anyway, I do drink no drugs, married with a couple kids full time job.
Gear wise, I think I am set. I really mean that.
I have been hunting by myself in the Dicky for 3 years. First two years modern then last year muzzleloader.
Its not very smart to hunt by yourself, I know that but I just haven't found anyone to hunt with.
I don't really want to go back to the dicky, they opened the road up where I had been hunting. Last year the archers hammered the bulls that I had been on. This year I haven't scouted. It really bummed me out last year, I had been on those elk during my scouting trips.
So if your partner can't hunt the whole season this year or you wouldn't mind a extra guy to help pack out your animal or maybe you need a extra gun to cover that ridge. Let me know.
I am big on maps. I just like to know where I am, what the terrian is like over that ridge. I also like to use google earth. Prior to hunting a new area. Jason

I only hunt ML for deer. I might suggest you do the AHE thing like a number of us here have, as most of us with that credential have hunted ML for elk. 6 month cow tag, plus an extra elk, is hard to beat.

Ok, so I can't seem any parties to glam onto.
Next question, when looking at the areas that are open for muzzleloader. And say I look at 667 or 654 they are open for 3pt min or antlerless. I have never hunted those areas. \ But when a area is open for 3pt min or antlerless. Should I assume there is a healthy number of animals? And its just a matter of locating them.
Like I said earlier I have been poking around 602, its pretty thick up there. And while there are elk the chances of getting a legal bull are slim. In my opinion.
But when I see these other areas open for 3pt or antlerless I have to assume there are more animals. JY

The 654 and 667 areas are both limited by private property. In 654 you have the Kapowsin tree farm which is closed to all elk hunting and this takes up the good majority of the area with the exception being some land up behind Eatonville. In 667 you have the vail tree farm which is also all gated off except during rifle deer season. There is some accessible land behind Alder lake, but expect it to be gated off as well. Maybe someday the Muzzleloader hunters will get a fair shake in this state, but it has been pretty limited for quite a while.

Bryan76 - regarding 667, do you mean gated off as in closed to all public access or gated off as in walk/hike/horseback in only? I would think walk in access only would benefit tunaklr, assuming he is willing to burn up some shoe leather.

I usually walk for miles , But I carry 100oz camelbak. With the needs of the day. and misc survival stuff.
I have a lead on a 6x6 in the 454, but its in a small patch of publicland. And if I know about it and haven't even scouted the area, how many other guys are on the Bull.
I will be hunting the 658 with a group that has been hunting it for a couple of years. I am really looking forward to hunting with some other people.
Thanks for the feedback. I hope to have a report next week. JY
