So I got home from work on Wednesday and was snacking on a piece of smoked salmon... Left it sitting on the kitchen counter on top of a zip lock, ran donstairs, came back and my 12 year old lab had gotten up on the counter and ate the fish and the bag. Besides being irritated about the principality of snagging something off of the counter I was worried that the bag would get stuck in his guts. Sure enough Thursday we got home from work and he was moaning and griping and could barely walk. Took him to the vet Friday morning and $600 worth of tests and radio active pictures later the vets says she thinks it will pass... Well it has not, I have been on poop patrol for 2 days now and no bag. Getting pretty pissed and having a hard time feeling bad for him and his discomfort. On one of the poop patrol walks he stops and picks up a chicken bone and a scold him for it. He is a great dog just overly piggy, now I am worried that it may cost me another $1200 for surgery if he does not produce the damn bag. Any way had to rant for a second... Peace

I heard you can rinse out ziplocks and reuse them...

I have always been pretty adiment about not feeding him off of the table, but my family sneaks stuff to him all of the time... This is the first time that he has done it to me, but a while back he gaffled a whole loaf of banana bread and a stick of butter off of my mother-in-laws counter the last time that she was watching him. At any rate I just hope that I do not have to chew through (pardon the pun) a bunch of savings to retrieve the bag. Any advise on whether or not some type of laxative would move things along???

I hope that your dog is ok, I have an 8 year old and fortunatly shes not like that . I can leave a sandwich on the coffee table and she wont touch it. Reminds me of Cheech and Chongs Up In Smoke when the dog eats Chongs stash. Best wishes for the pooch.

Petromalt is used for hairballs but all it is is a fish flavored laxative. You could feed him a whole tube. I've given one of our cats a half tube and it cleaned him out. I wouldn't advise using human laxative, some drugs are toxic to pets.

Definately feling like chong at this point that is for sure. He actually has a decent amount of energy, but I know it is still in his guts. Hopefully it show up bofore the work week otherwise it is going to turn into a bigger pain in the but (no pun intended) than it already is.

Back in '70, a guy I knew at the time held a hashball down to let his lab pup sniff it and the dog ate the whole thing. Couldn't really tell if it affected him or not as the pup was kinda goofy, ate a lot and slept alot anyway. Pretty much what most people would do if they ate a hashball of that size. Not that I know for sure but I've heard stories.........

My uncles lab ate a thumb sized bud of some Humboldt County indica that hit the floor and layed on her bed with glazed eyes for about 10 hours. She got way baked -TBJ

Well Bud (the dogs name) actually enjoys a little chrizzle dizzle from time to time so if he would have eaten a ball of hash or a fat nug it would have more than likely been enjoyable for him... He is actually doing better, never actually saw the zip lock but at this point I do not think that I will. He finally dropped a big bomb this evening, I never thought I would eagerly anticipate him #2'n it so much. Anyhow thanks for the stories and the Cheech and Chong humor.

Had a viszla eat a whole large can of foil wraped almond roca and never skiped a beat then produced a shinny lawn dart To funny, been thru that with my Yellow lab. In his case he ate a frisbee and when I was picking up crap later in the week it was full of little bits of red plastic. He has also snatched a steak right off the grill . I was in disbelief that he could wolf something down that was that hot. I kicked his ass for that one. On the same note, my yellow lab ( Rex, male 3 1/2 years old) is the coolest person in this house. I've had 4 labs and this one is no doubt the best. Quite a bit of personality
