Looking at purchasing a new to me used Volvo. Looking for input on either of the forementioned vehicles. Thanks.

Ex wife has had a xc-(not sure if 70 or 90) for seven years. It's a great wagon.
I've driven it a bunch and loved it.
They aren't cheap but drive very well especially in snow and rain.
The interior is also very nice.
She has had no maint. issues besides the normal brakes etc.
Her's is a model year 2000 which was bought new.
I think the one draw back is you have to use premium gas.

I personally wouldn't buy a newer Volvo. They are all made by Ford but have the Volvo label and Volvo Pricetag.

Lary Coppola, the owner/editor of the Kitsap Business Journal reviews cars. Here's two about Volvos:

I have an '87 740 wagon with 260,000+ miles that I paid $3500. for 6 years ago and it's one of the best cars I've owned. I am hard on vehicles and this thing just keeps rolling. Whether I'm going 40 or 80 the car feels the same. I will buy another used one when this one's wheels fall off.

My brother, who had terrible mechanical luck with cars, has an XC 90 and it is awesome. I wish I could afford one. We have an S40 that has done well.

My wife also has a 2004 S40 (not the 2004.5) with the turbo. Very fun car to drive and no issues so far.

It appears from this link that Volvo's are still made by Volvo except as of last year the S40 is manufactured in China jointly with Ford/Mazda.

We looked at some used xc70 at that dealer in Lynwood, test drove a few. Finally decided after checking consumer reports that it wasn't for us.

Thats not really a answer, to your question. However based on the maintance costs we decided against the volvo.

My thoughts on the test drive were quite smooth riding car. Seemed a little dogish accelerating.

Our neighbors have the same model and from what I have heard I am glad we passed. Its sounds like its above averge in maintance costs.
