D3---Nice job you seem to put a hurtin' on them. Is that pole deke wind powered or wind up? Does it make a noticeable difference in the # of birds coming in?

The decoy is a "flutter-wing" from aero outdoors. It makes a difference for sure. i hunt with mine 99% of the time.

I'd be a lot more in to duck and goose hunting if there was such a thing as shoot and release. The only problem I have now with hunting waterfowl is that the birds die...and someone has to eat them. YUCK! Can't stand duck or geese. Shoot and release. I gotta work on that one..... Nice shootin' Tex.

teriyaki duck sticks.... YUMMM!!! Now i just need to find a guy to make some on this side of the state and i am good to go. A great snack for fishing, driving or just sitting around the house. They are delicious.
ache- 95% of my hunting is over water. Its just so difficult to get on a field these days. I dont hunt up that way much, but shoot me a PM and we'll talk. The spot we hunted sunday is a tiny little puddle of water, maybe 25x50 yards or so. 5 minutes before shooting we landed a flock of 8 geese in the decoys, waited for my phone to go off at 6:10, jumped the flock, killing 6 of them on the rise, before we called the other 2 back and collected them too. sunday wasnt as good as saturday but the mallards sure seemed to work better the later it got in the morning and we were able to work in singles and pairs to get to 14.

Hey Man. My truck looked similar to that this past weekend as well. Well, except for the birds were on the duck boat.
I do most my duck and goose hunting down near the Tri-Cities. Do you ever hunt my way?

P- i hunt down there quite a bit once the weather gets a little colder and more mallards move into McNary or the small waters freeze and they start using the river. Yak-TC-Paterson-ML.... i'll travel all over to find birds and good shooting.

I hear ya. We have had a great start to this year. So far most of our hunts have ended with limits or damn near. There seems to be a lot more ducks this year for this time of the season than years past. I would have to say that I spend most of my time from the mouth of the snake to mouth of the Walla Walla. When you are down in the area next send my a PM and we can go wack some ducks together.

sounds good. I will let you know when i make it down that way... i assume you hunt the peninsula and islands quite a bit with your boat. I am walk in only right now, although we could have had an epic hunt this weekend with a little jon boat. I have hunted ducks 4 days and shot 24 myself. not too bad a start to the year. Not guiding steelhead on the eastside this year is really going to cut into my duck numbers. I miss it already.

Parker just try this once. Get a couple off goose breast and put em in a ziplock over night with some olive oil and garlic. Next day BBQ em like a good steak as rare as you can handle it. saute up some onion and bell pepers while they are on the barbi. When you pull the goose off slice it into thin strips and add it to the onion and pepers and through it all on a plate as soon as it's mixed together. I felt the way you fill until I had it that way and now I love it. Most of my life I was fed over cooked game mainly vinson and never liked it. now that I know how to cook it I prefer it to beef.

Achewter is right on. Once I figured out the correct way to cook the ducks and geese, I was a changed man. I actually started hunting ducks when the rivers were in shape, instead of just passing the time when they were blown out.
Overcooked game is the reason so much of it gets wasted every year. Duck blood is sweet tasting, and once you get used to game rare, you can just live on the stuff. My favorite is Teal Parmigiana, been making that lately and everyone who eats it goes nuts, seriously good stuff.

Absolutely you guys are spot on... Over cooked game is the WORST!!! it might not have to be alive, but it should sure be bloody! I love BBQed goose breat. It is some of the best stuff there is, and really ends up like a good steak. It must be rare though. We usually use red wine, and oil with a little garlic on the goose. Roast ducks are some of my faves as well. Nothing like a big fat mallard thats been eating corn for a week. Those big late season drakes make some fantastic dinners. I also like duck breasts rolled around a spear of jalepeno and wrapped in bacon on the grill. Great stuff. Making me hungry just thinkin about it!
