To those that'd rather have this swept under the rug:

Do you think Ben Johnson should still be considered the fastest man in the world and have his medals?

Should the butt ugly German olympic swim team still be dominating womens swimming?

Where does it end?

On a side note...it strikes me funny that the PGA is implementing drug testing. Is there a drug out there that improves your swing because I want some.

Could have a little something to do with a move out of 'the mistake by the lake' and into The Fens... ya think?

Here's how I see it: MLB had a don't ask don't tell policy on roids, they liked the action they were seeing on the field and they didn't want to know what was causing it. Chicks (and other fans too) dig the long ball, period. Ball parks got smaller, the mound got lower, and pitchers were getting rocked... they needed a little help, so bring on the HGH.

You can't really compare Bonds to Aaron, or Aaron to Ruth... the game was different when they played. Ruth hit a ton of homers late in games when the pitcher had already thrown 120 pitches, and the short porch at the Stadium helped too. Aaron played it pretty hitter friendly parks durring an era where relievers came in only sparingly and there were't a bunch of bullpen specialists like there are now. Bonds played in the Juiced age, not just the players, but the equipment too! What's everyone going to say when A-Rod hits #800? I'm sure they'll try to tear him down too. Steroids weren't against the rules, some chose to sell their souls, some didn't... let them live (or die... just ask Caminiti) with the consiquences.

It is what it is... now they have rules and somewhat stiff penalties for violations, lets see where that goes. I'll keep watching baseball, but I'd rather watch High Schoolers or Pony Leaguers. It'll be interesting to see what the fall-out is... but I'm not holding my breath waiting for ol'Bud to "make it all right". ~josh

What about the HGH that's prescribed by a Dr.... or the ones that are available outside the US... or the androwhatever that McGuire used... or any other over-the-counter supliment that can aid in testosterone production? You can call them felons, or druggies, or whatever... but technically they weren't 'cheaters'. Do I condone it? NO WAY... but I can understand how it can happen. ~josh

So are you saying they all had prescriptions and they need to go after the doctors? Anabolic steroids are against the law without a prescription.

Just because it's against the law... doesn't make it against the rules.

It isn't against the law in Venezuela, or the Dominican... why should those players be at an advantage due to the lax laws in their countries? Why should the some players be allowed to use HGH by Rx and not allow others to do the same? Baseball made it's bed in the late 80's and early 90's... now they need to sleep in it. I'd be fully satisfied if Buddy Boy came out and said 'hey, it wasn't against the rules... it was against the law, but the law is not the governing body of MLB. If any player was brought up on charges of trafficing a controlled substance MLB would have addressed the situation at the time. We're committed to cleaning up the game, but everything in this report is ex-post-facto. There'll be no stripping of records, or asterics, or any penalties to players named in the report... baseball is moving forward with a commitiment toward the integity of the game."

Frankly I think it's pretty stupid that all this went to Congress... they have better things to do, like figure out how to fund education for the children of this country, or get us the f#$& out of Iraq. ~josh

So sports stars shouldn't have to obey the laws in this country? Should Darryl Strawberry or Dwight Gooden have been punished?

It went to congress because congress is the overseer of MLB baseball and can pull baseballs Anti-trust exemption.

Funny.... you failed to address the Rx issue. I'm not saying they shouldn't obey the law, we all should. What I'm saying is, this is all after the fact... so MLB and Congress doesn't have a leg to stand on here. It wasn't against the rules, PERIOD. If they want to risk their careers and jail time... so be it. It could be worse, they could be running dog fighting opperations. The only thing they're doing is screwing themselves. Oh, and IT WASN'T AGAINST THE RULES.

I don't see Congress getting involved in the NBA's affairs... not even when a ref gets busted for betting on games he officiated, and admitting to ties with the mafia. Guns, drugs, and thugs with millions... I'm much more concerned about that than a bunch of guys shoving needles in their ass just so they can throw/hit a ball harder. ~josh

PS... I hear you stlhead, it sucks that we as a society hold these guys (and athletes in general) in such high regard that they seem to get away with murder (Ray Lewis). It is unfortunate that the true heros in this country like police officers, firefighters, EMTs and educators don't get the recognition or financial compensation that they deserve. I'm just saying that baseball NEW WHAT WAS UP... and did nothing. Now they're throwing all these guys under the bus just to try and save face. I'm not buying it.

"Funny.... you failed to address the Rx issue"
I haven't heard anyone claim they had a prescription.

The reason congress is involved versus the NBA or the NFL is that baseball is the only sport in the country with an anti-trust exemption granted by congress. It's the duty of congress to revisit that from time to time to determine if that's still warranted. Basically congess is an overseer of MLB.

Murder, rape, armed robbery aren't against the rules of baseball that I know of either.
Should Michael Vick have been suspended? Did he break team or NFL rules?

Should college players be suspended for off campus crimes?

Highschoolers?

I too think that the owners on down were well aware and probably encouraged it with a "I don't want to know" attitude but I think that if this is swept under the rug then it will die down and continue business as usual.
