I freelance hunt the chehalis valley. A lot. Answer these questions:

Do you have a boat you feel safe shooting out of, that you can hide?

Do you have decoys?

Do you have chest waders?

Are you friends with any farmers?

That is where you start, it can get way more complicated from there.

Years ago we used to go down to the Ocean spray cranberry plant that faces the salt water, there is a smaller strip of grass that splits the plant with the water. We had a blast. You have to time it just right though, on high tide the dog can retrieve but on low tide you don't want your dog going into that muddy tide bank, my dog went for a retrieve and nearly sank. When we went there were hundreds maybe thousands of ducks. It was the funnest hunt I ever went on, the ducks were mud ducks and tasted like shiat but it was fun.

You'll have to find your own pond-jumpin spots. Those are pretty hard to come by and to tell where any of them are would be counter productive. I don't typically jump-shoot, so for the most part I let my timbered holes, and beaver ponds fill up with ducks, so that I can loft the birds before light and set up for a short hour or two long hunt on them.

Way to go! It is nice to find those kind of places. Now figure out how to keep ducks in there, and keep it secret and you will be set.

Did you take a picture?
