Angry white man. I'm not the biggest fan of GW, either. In election 2008, don’t forget Angry White Man Gary Hubbell February 9, 2008
Print Email
There is a great amount of interest in this year’s presidential elections, as everybody seems to recognize that our next president has to be a lot better than George Bush. The Democrats are riding high with two groundbreaking candidates — a woman and an African-American — while the conservative Republicans are in a quandary about their party’s nod to a quasi-liberal maverick, John McCain.
Each candidate is carefully pandering to a smorgasbord of special-interest groups, ranging from gay, lesbian and transgender people to children of illegal immigrants to working mothers to evangelical Christians.
There is one group no one has recognized, and it is the group that will decide the election: the Angry White Man. The Angry White Man comes from all economic backgrounds, from dirt-poor to filthy rich. He represents all geographic areas in America, from urban sophisticate to rural redneck, deep South to mountain West, left Coast to Eastern Seaboard.
His common traits are that he isn’t looking for anything from anyone — just the promise to be able to make his own way on a level playing field. In many cases, he is an independent businessman and employs several people. He pays more than his share of taxes and works hard.
The victimhood syndrome buzzwords — “disenfranchised,” “marginalized” and “voiceless” — don’t resonate with him. “Press ‘one’ for English” is a curse-word to him. He’s used to picking up the tab, whether it’s the company Christmas party, three sets of braces, three college educations or a beautiful wedding.
He believes the Constitution is to be interpreted literally, not as a “living document” open to the whims and vagaries of a panel of judges who have never worked an honest day in their lives.
The Angry White Man owns firearms, and he’s willing to pick up a gun to defend his home and his country. He is willing to lay down his life to defend the freedom and safety of others, and the thought of killing someone who needs killing really doesn’t bother him.
The Angry White Man is not a metrosexual, a homosexual or a victim. Nobody like him drowned in Hurricane Katrina — he got his people together and got the hell out, then went back in to rescue those too helpless and stupid to help themselves, often as a police officer, a National Guard soldier or a volunteer firefighter.
His last name and religion don’t matter. His background might be Italian, English, Polish, German, Slavic, Irish, or Russian, and he might have Cherokee, Mexican, or Puerto Rican mixed in, but he considers himself a white American.
He’s a man’s man, the kind of guy who likes to play poker, watch football, hunt white-tailed deer, call turkeys, play golf, spend a few bucks at a strip club once in a blue moon, change his own oil and build things. He coaches baseball, soccer and football teams and doesn’t ask for a penny. He’s the kind of guy who can put an addition on his house with a couple of friends, drill an oil well, weld a new bumper for his truck, design a factory and publish books. He can fill a train with 100,000 tons of coal and get it to the power plant on time so that you keep the lights on and never know what it took to flip that light switch.
Women either love him or hate him, but they know he’s a man, not a dishrag. If they’re looking for someone to walk all over, they’ve got the wrong guy. He stands up straight, opens doors for women and says “Yes, sir” and “No, ma’am.”
He might be a Republican and he might be a Democrat; he might be a Libertarian or a Green. He knows that his wife is more emotional than rational, and he guides the family in a rational manner.
He’s not a racist, but he is annoyed and disappointed when people of certain backgrounds exhibit behavior that typifies the worst stereotypes of their race. He’s willing to give everybody a fair chance if they work hard, play by the rules and learn English.
Most important, the Angry White Man is pissed off. When his job site becomes flooded with illegal workers who don’t pay taxes and his wages drop like a stone, he gets righteously angry. When his job gets shipped overseas, and he has to speak to some incomprehensible idiot in India for tech support, he simmers. When Al Sharpton comes on TV, leading some rally for reparations for slavery or some such nonsense, he bites his tongue and he remembers. When a child gets charged with carrying a concealed weapon for mistakenly bringing a penknife to school, he takes note of who the local idiots are in education and law enforcement.
He also votes, and the Angry White Man loathes Hillary Clinton. Her voice reminds him of a shovel scraping a rock. He recoils at the mere sight of her on television. Her very image disgusts him, and he cannot fathom why anyone would want her as their leader. It’s not that she is a woman. It’s that she is who she is. It’s the liberal victim groups she panders to, the “poor me” attitude that she represents, her inability to give a straight answer to an honest question, his tax dollars that she wants to give to people who refuse to do anything for themselves.
There are many millions of Angry White Men. Four million Angry White Men are members of the National Rifle Association, and all of them will vote against Hillary Clinton, just as the great majority of them voted for George Bush.
He hopes that she will be the Democratic nominee for president in 2008, and he will make sure that she gets beaten like a drum.

With FEW exceptions this pretty much describes me and the people I hang around with regarding our politicial views. With our media holding court on sound bites from our heroes they go from hero to zero in an afternoon and then they get crucified in the evening news, while the real losers are left unscathed at the end of the day.
Fortunately the vast majority of us will show up on election day and try to right most of the wrongs that seem to plaque our nation's agenda. Until then we will go to work to support our families, pay our taxes and keep our mouths shut in an attempt to feign polictical correctness while the freedom fire inside us continues to burn.

Most of that describes me...a few notable exceptions:
The NRA can take flying phukk...they lie, prey on the fears of others, and are THE number one bad special interest group in the country...any "angry white man" that detests special interest groups should have a special black spot in the corner of their hate for the NRA.
Didn't vote for GW...twice...and wouldn't vote for anyone remotely like him...ever.
Literal interpretation of the Constitution is simplistic and ridiculous...it's right up there with literal interpretation of the Bible on the list of "look how dumb I am!" things to do.
I'm also not very angry...at anything...nor do I worry too much about it if phone message services come in two or three languages, nor do I care if we have a woman or a black man for President...I'd take a trained squirrel over the untrained nut we have in there now.
Otherwise, I fit right in there on most of the rest...which, surprisingly, ain't much.
Fish on...
Todd

Yeah, I don't agree with it all either, but there are a few points that describe me to a T.

Like I said Marsha, a lot describes me to a T, not all. Not into the NRA (jack booted thug comment lost me) I don't do a lot of stupid things, just a few.

Wow. I believe in self-reliance, personal accountability, and honesty for myself. I had to re-read that thing a few times and it sounds worse every time.
"He’s not a racist, but he is annoyed and disappointed when people of certain backgrounds exhibit behavior that typifies the worst stereotypes of their race. He’s willing to give everybody a fair chance if they work hard, play by the rules and learn English."
This is just one example full of contradictions - I suppose angry white guy learns the language of any foreign country he visits and isn't a "loud American" when he's there? This kind of stuff drives us all apart, not bring us together.
I'm glad I'm not angry - just disappointed with the system. I hope my vote still counts come election time.
LOL! BEEP!

Anyone who claims that they don't get angry is either emotionally shut down or simply lying. Some seem to be confused about the difference between being angry and acting it out. It's as natural to feel anger as it is to feel happiness. The important thing is not HOW you feel, it's WHAT you do with it. Some of the angriest people are those who whistle often or talk all the time. Or those who have to keep their minds quiet by listening to loud music, or talk constantly on the phone.....anything to keep from listening to the endless "committee meeting" going on in their heads. And with most, the problem is "the other guy, thing, organization, etc". Angry White Man? there's plenty everywhere. I don't know how anyone could agree with all that was in the article, but, like most things, there are at least some very valid points, IMO. Or were you expecting something we ALL could agree upon? Now THAT'S funny!!

Hitler is considered one of the best orators of all time – yep a weak little man that spoke the words of change. Good speaker maybe but Hitler never spoke with power Are you serious? They guy is considered to be THE best orator of all time, despite being a Genocidal Despot. He could speak overtop of a noisy, crowded public square without a PA system AND get everyone within a block to STFU and listen. If that's not power then maybe you should enlighten us to what is. I like how you equate Obama & Hitler and accuse Obama of treason in the same breath. You really had to reach deep for that one. I wasn't really big on Obama to begin with, but when I see how he frightens the Racist Rednecks (AKA Angry White Men) it makes me like him even more. Voting based on Gender or skin color has to be the most unintelligent thing I've ever heard of. Not voting for Obama because his daddy was black is just as stupid as voting for Hillary because of the notion that a uterus will give her the magical ability to do a better job, or voting for McCain despite his involvement in the S&L scandal. It's kinda like Gay Marriage, at first I thought it absurd and I was opposed to it, but the more I saw how it made the bigoted and ignorant piss their little panties, the more I came to support it. Besides, its none our business if a couple of fruits want to play Ozzie & Harriet together as long as they play by the same legal & taxation rules as my wife & I.

I think the whole anti-gay marriage group are just closet Republicans against gay's committing to a single partner.

Anyone going to law school who disregards the law 17 times, times 2 has little regard for the rule of law.
It sounds to me like he was behaving like a real lawyer! ...and the other day it was so cold down here in NorCal, I saw a lawyer with his hands in his own pockets!

Yeah but did he lift a fish out of the water? It's OK. He was in Massachusetts at the time. I believe they issue a Blades card to anyone in Massachusetts that makes lifting any and all fish out of the water perfectly PC behavior. We don't have those laws in MA Aunty.

I feel some relief that Obama had unpaid parking tickets. For a while there I was concerned that he wasn't an ordinary person. Sorta' like Clinton's first campaign mistake was saying he didn't inhale.
Good theatre should always be a part of the political process.
"If America could be, once again, a nation of self-reliant farmers, craftsmen, hunters, ranchers, and artists, then the rich would have little power to dominate others. Neither to serve nor to rule: That was the American dream."
"Anarchism is founded on the observation that since few men are wise enough to rule themselves, even fewer are wise enough to rule others."
"Our 'neoconservatives' are neither new nor conservative, but old as Bablyon and evil as Hell."
"The tragedy of modern war is that the young men die fighting each other - instead of their real enemies back home in the capitals."
"Recorded history is largely an account of the crimes and disasters committed by banal little men at the levers of imperial machines."
"Liberty cannot be guaranteed by law. Nor by anything else except the resolution of free citizens to defend their liberties."
"Terrorism: deadly violence against humans and other living things, usually conducted by government against its own people."
"There never was a good war or a bad revolution."
"The rebel is doomed to a violent death. The rest of us can look forward to sedated expiration in a coma inside an oxygen tent, with tubes inserted in every bodily orifice."
"Anarchism is not a romantic fable but the hardheaded realization, based on five thousand years of experience, that we cannot entrust the management of our lives to kings, priests, politicians, generals, and county commissioners."
"In a nation of sheep, one brave man forms a majority."
"What's the difference between a whore and a congressman? A congressman makes more money."
"Democracy--rule by the people--sounds like a fine thing; we should try it sometime in America."

Did you want to discuss his cocaine, pot and alcohol use/abuse instead? Aunty No, and to be honest I don't care either. For me personally, what I want to hear from all the candidates is a firm plan to get our troops back home, a plan to deal with the weakening dollar, and things of that nature. When Hillary and Obama talk about their medical plans it's BS, I mean we can't actually get our hands on them and read them can we? I want to read what their actual plans our, the debates don’t go into enough detail.

anyone ever wounder why it is that the canadans come down here to get major medical its because if they have a serious health problem they will die before they get any help when they come here not only do we have the best doctors but when the government tells you you will make only so much money there is know real reason to strech your self just work the min. then go play golf here we may get screwed by the price of the doc but because the more they work the more they make you get seen and when it matters they are there may not be the best system but you cant socialise it and get the same care it will go down because ther is no incentive

I could give you a long list of McCain's character flaws My uncle flew attack jets off of the same ship as McCain. Same ship, but different squadrons. Several ships, actually. I've heard all about McCain's "character flaws". I'd say well before he thought of becoming president, but I'm pretty sure he was thinking of becoming president the day he was in diapers. I really do not think highly of McCain - which is pretty sad in that I consider myself to be a Fiscally Responsible Republican. Can't vote for Hillary. She's boring. I hate listening to her speak. Obama is too far to the Left. I love him as a speaker, though.

How frustrating it has to be for the R haters to have the two present top D's held up as something to lead the country. The D party could have presented White Joe Schmuck Unknown from Central Iowa as their premier candidate and had a shoo-in to the While House. Instead..............we get and Only thing left to say is........

Just about any moderate dem would win in a landslide, but the dem's still have not figured this out......great for the r's though. Someone like lieberman for instance imo could beat MCcain. Pretty embarassing the choices on both sides. You would think with nearly 300 million people in this country we could do better.

I think if McCain hadn't repainted himself as the new Bush, he'd be the shoo-in. I used to have a lot of respect for McCain. I'm kinda' pissed that he took that away from me.
There's a chance the election will again be a close contest. There's no doubt in my mind that if the Dems had used the half a brain that the party leaders insist on repressing, all they had to do is run any white male acknowledged Christian from the mid-west or south, and the White House would be theirs. Instead, they are so stupidly friggin' confident that all of America's voters hate Bush (conveniently ignoring how stupid most Americans are) as much as they do, that they can run a woman and a black that most people, including lifelong Dems, don't care all that much for, and still pull off a win. It makes me think the Dem national leaders are stupid as a box of rocks, and would deserve to lose soundly, except for the Rep administration, and as it would be under the Bush-painted-McCain, being evil incarnate. Almost makes me long for a Rep like Gerald Ford; at least he did no evil that I recall.

Almost makes me long for a Rep like Gerald Ford; at least he did no evil that I recall. Oh yes he did - he gave Chevy Chase material for "acting" on Saturday Night Live. Outside of "Fletch", he was pretty crappy.... I agree that all the candidates suck, that to be a successful politician you would have to lie and/or compromise your own ethics (if you had any to start with), so how do we get better choices intead of lesser evils?
