If you haven't seen this latest Coen Brothers flick I strongly suggest you do so. It's a bit more of a serious premise than say the Big Lebowski or O Brother Where Art Though, but it's very good. Violent as hell, and Tommy lee Jones is great in it,so is Javier Bardim,I think that's his name. He's a bad mofo in this.

Juno sucked ass.just so you know.

Back to the subject at hand...No Country For Old Men was a killer flick...it's too bad Tommy Lee Jones couldn't get a nomination out of it, too, but the movie garnered a ton of 'em.

I like all the Coen Brothers' films, but this one is right up there with my favorites...

Fish on...

If that doesn't make the "Quote of the Day", than nothing will.

I'm a huge Coen brothers fan. I am patiently waiting for it to be released and the Netflix people to send it to me. Can't wait.

Sweet, you're right!

I just checked my Netflix Queue, and as soon as the Darjeeling Limited gets back, they should be sending it to me.

Just saw it this weekend. Wow, haven't seen so many people killed in a movie since the Untouchables. - "call it!" heads you live, tails you die, Anton just couldn't kill enough people in a day's work. And the ending

Watched it last night, finally.

It deserved the awards it got. I had to think about it for about 2 hours after I finished it, and decided that "Yeah, that is a great movie". To me it seems like the story (hence the title) was about the Sheriff character, and he actually had no bearing whatsoever on the fates of any of the other characters.

I think there are a number of allegories that could be dreamt up out of the movie, which is probably the point of it. The most obvious to me was government's relative inability to keep up with the changing times vis-a-vis the evolution of visciousness, and organization of criminals. And based on some of the dialogue, the American people's desensitization to that kind of violence.

Hey Rocket, I watched it last night too. My wife left the room, but I enjoyed the movie over all. It wasn't an award winner type movie for me, but I enjoyed it. It sure left me with a "What!?" feeling at the end. \:\)

I agree that there are alot of potential themes to expand on. I was struck solidly with Tommy Lee Jones dream. Must be an old man thing.

Yeah, I can tell, Jerry. That's the second time you posted that comment in this thread. \:\) Sounds like you are still going, "WTF!"

As far as the mechanics go in the movie, I doubt you can kill someone with a blast of compressed gas to the brain without the eyeballs blowing out. And blowing lock cylinders out with compressed air? UH HUH. Not that it can't be done, but I guarantee you ain't gonna be holding on to the hose. Hollywood all the way, IMO.

The cattle gun uses compressed air to shoot out a bolt, that instantly retracts on a spring. It isn't a whoosh of air that kills people/cows.

SPOILER ALERT (don't read farther if you are going to watch the movie)

The story ended with the Sherriff finally being retired. That was the end, clearly. Realizing that the criminal world, or world of evil was far to vast for him to even make a small dent in, or even comprehend. He was the only character in the entire story, who we got any depth on. You know he comes from a family of lawmen, is married, likes horses, and a few other tid-bits. He is the only one who you get any warmth for. The funniest part is he had absolutely no bearing on the chase between Moss and Chigurh, and eventually the Mexican suppliers.

If they had a shootout ending where TLJ walks off retiring saying one of his honky catch phrases, then that would have completely wrecked the point they were trying to make. In that evil/crime/whatever is ongoing/unstoppable, and much larger in scope, and much further engrained into the fabric of society than many want to belive.

The other characters you only see in one dimension, well I guess you get a tiny bit of depth on the Moss character. In that he was in Nam, and thinks that he can do anything on his own, but that's it, and they only give you that so that you understand why he is so good with guns, and won't accept any help. The Chigurh (sp) (Sugar) character is not even defined at all. He believes that he is fate, or something like that. Dude is really scary.

I also think that they really don't want you to fully understand who everyone else is or who they work for, because you are supposed to see the story through TLJ's eyes. He never even comes close to cunerstanding who he is chasing, and how they all are linked. Let alone stopping any of the violence.

"Are you going to kill me?" . . . "That depends, can you see me?"

It is really a thought provoking movie.

Thanks for the cattle killer link. Makes more sense now. Still not convinced on the lock bolts, but I'll give it a maybe. \:\)
