i've now seen this story on stolen kegs twice now. northwest brewing news and newsweek. thieves are now steeling empty keg for the scrap $$$. those of you who purchase kegs know of keg deposits right?... heres some numbers for you. for a brewery to purchase a keg runs about 90$ to 110$ hence the deposit. an estimated 300.000 kegs have been stolen nation wide. this is about 50 million$ annually! so this WILL be passed on to us. this just royally bites! empty kegs now must be locked up. anyways thought this might be worth sharing.

Maybe we can get Parker to consider these people as zombies!

Having never actually come across a zombie *yet*, that might not be the case.

Maybe you have, but just didn't know it...if I were you I'd consider killing all methheads, too, until proven that they aren't zombies...or at least might not be.

Not only are the loss of kegs and issue with brewers, now hops are becoming scarce. I heard part of an intervew with a brewer talking about it and how they only had enough hops to brew about 500 - 600 barrels and no prospect for any more. Plus, if he could find them, the price has jumped tremendously.
He did say he got some two year old hops from South America and threw them all out rather than use poor quality hops.
I came in late on the interview so I don't know which brewery.

Stealing full kegs is much more fun...

this isn't entirely a tweaker thing. this a nation wide problem. there was a ring of theives caught months ago in portland. a group of russians were hitting big building sites. taking anything that was not bolted down. valves, anything copper and wire. these guys were not tweakers just lowlifes coming to this country... cause here we don't cut thier hands off or worse yet, take them out to pit and off them....
