Anyone have any experience with any local 4x4 shops doing a body lift on a pickup? More specifically a 2008 Nissan Frontier SE 4X4.

I know there's a couple in Tacoma that have been around a long time like Olympic Offroad and another whose name escapes me at the moment.

Lets leave out the topic of shops to stay away from. If you don't like them or don't recommend them then just dont bring them up.

I just need a referral for a simple body lift.

But it sounds like the suspension lift is a much better option.

I have had positive experience with Truck Performance Northwest just outside of Renton off the Maple Valley Highway. If it's not done right he won't do it. Prices are reasonable also. Ask for Casey 425-432-7276.

I hate Body lifts ;\) You can always check out 4 wheel parts warehouse in tacoma... I've done a fair amount of biz through them, and they've yet to screw me \:\) On the other hand, I typically just buy stuff from em, and install it myself \:\)

Just FYI, the pros will tell you the use of body lifts should be limited to trucks that already have a suspention lift and only if a little extra clearance is needed for large diameter wheels. Build them from the ground up, not from the top down. \:\)

And a lot of places, will not install a suspension lift on anything with a body lift, and vice versa ;\) The body lift boxes actually specifically say that they are not to be used in combination with modified suspension ;\)

Myself, that's the only thing body lifts are good for, is fixing the grumbling when you're slicing the hell out of your brand new tires, and ya gotta go up just a wee bit more \:\)

On a side note, it's handy to be able to keep the durability of your stock suspension and still clear a little bigger tire on an IFS rig \:\)

Yeah, that's true. That's why the combination of both are usually only done on extream modification of non-street legal trucks with larger than 12" suspention lifts and 48" tires.

Unless you live in California.

I, personally would never get a body lift. But If you really want to Id say Olympic Off Road.

But you may want to do your homework on the effects lifts may have on your Tranny and drive train. Also the hidden costs such as Speedometer adjustments, tongue & payload capacity, handling performance, shocks, height clearance, etc.

I was going to get a suspension lift for my F-250 until I started considering all the effects it could have. Plus I like being able to get through drive-thru's and into my garage.

Wherever you go, make sure to make the rear higher. This improves mileage...kinda like driving downhill.

Would a suspension lift be a better product in the end?

Yes no doubt about it, if you want to keep it on the cheap look into a leveling kit. While not as much of a lift as a full suspension, it is still a better option than a body lift. Plus that way you don't have to change shocks, springs, lower and upper control arms ect. More in the price point of a body lift rather than a full suspension.

Definitely go for the leveling kit. Much more cost effective and you wont need to grow out mullet to drive the truck(sorry to those who still have one but I cut mine years ago). It keeps it pretty cheap and does not force you to buy all the extras as Green Drft stated. One on the nissian I think it will be about 2 inch on the front end allowing a bit larger tires......maybe 33's that will give the truck a good look and still ride/handle nice.

Yes. Eddie, most every truck you see lifted driving around on the road is a suspention lift, unless it's one some squid got a hold of, stock frame and bumper elevation with a chasis jacked up in the air. They look retarded as hell.

I am still looking at the leveling kit as an option. At the dealership they told me the lsat one the did needed new shackles for the rear suspension because the front end actually came out an inch higher than the front after the leveling kit was installed.

Yea, you guys are right. The body lift would look cheesy.
A suspension lift for that truck couldnt be too expensive, could it??

Shackles would be a good way to go in the back if the leveling kit raises the front too much.
Just look for well made high grade steel versions, there are lots of crappy stamped steel versions on e-bay for dirt cheap.
But spend some time and you should be able to find some decent ones for a good price. You can find different lengths for most trucks too. Super easy installation.
