Just got into a new ford F-150 supercrew lariat 4x4 with all the bells and whistles.
Looking for mod suggestions, pros and cons...what not to do etc. I want to set it up right. But I also dont want to go to far because it will spend 95% of its time on the hiway.
My ideas are as follows. In order of importance.
Procomp 6 inch lift with bilstien shocks.
31.5 or maybe 33 inch BFGs on 17 inch black wheels. (hate cleaning aluminum)
Programmer/perf chip. No idea which product to look at.
Cold air intake. Thinking K&N but Ive heard theres better for the same $$
Flowmaster dual exhaust.
Maybe Gibson stainless performance headers?
Tranny cooler? ( do a lot of towing in the Mt passes)
High volume oil pan?
I would definitly do that tranny cooler. If you're hauling heavy over big passes in mid summer you may thank your lucky stars you did it.
The oil pan may cut down on your clearance, I'd make sure you have a really good skid-plate to protect it. A good definition of "Up Sh*t Creek without a paddle" would be splitting open your oil pan while up screwing around way out in BFE.
The Performance chip has been known to cause probs with valves and head gaskets frying themselves. do more homework on your engine type before doing any mods.
I assume you bought a Gasoline V-8. If you bought a Powerstroke diesel,(like I did) I wouldn't mess w/ it for anything. The reason why is that the engine runs on super high pressures all around and is engineered to run only to withstand these tolerances. So doing a Banks system or mod-chipping is a serious no-no. You can never go wrong with upgrading a cooling system however.
I was going to mod the hell out of my '06 F-250 FX4 Powerstroke, until I did my homework and discovered that it would seriously impede my towing (boat) & hauling (8' camper) abilities and performance, plus it would double the cost of my rubber & shocks every other year, and also VOID my WARRANTY. Plus with the leveling kit, loading it to the gills w/ camper & boat I'd be staring at the sky w/ a lift on. The leveling job only looks cool with an empty load.
I was also going to do a brush guard so I could install a winch, but the new brush guards look like those masks worn by Hannibal Lecter in Silence of the Lambs. I still want a winch though. They kick ass.
