Should we boycott them? Why? Just curious if anyone cares. Also, saw a "good" bumper sticker - "Support Communist China, shop at Wal-Mart"

Don't care. China is as corrupt as we are, owns us and we seem to strive to lower our standards to their level. Has China wrongly invaded any countries lately? If we did have the gall to say anything the rest of the world would have a good laugh.

Yes, I see the hypocrisy as well... wait, your one of those godless commies, aren't you stlhead!?! ;\) I find it amusing that people are calling for a boycot but ignore what we've done in Iraq. Still, I'd always rather live here than there...

Aunty! If you boycot Wal-Mart, you are boycotting China! Additionally, their sporting goods department sucks down here - plenty of lead weights and jigs though!!!

I like to think of the US as the Roman Empire of the times. Once our currency is no longer the world standard, we'll become second or third rate or worse... I hope I'm not living to see it right now!

I appreciate your attempts at pollution control Aunty! Unfortunately, thanks to the jet stream, Chinese pollution accounts for almost half of the federally allowed amount of particulate (parts per billion?) in our air in California. I'm guessing Oregon and Washington "benefit" as well.

I really liked the Fred Meyer I shopped at last summer in Oregon - I didn't notice their chinese made products, but we were grocery shopping.

Leave the dam politics out of the olympics!

It's about the people that have made it there. They are there to represent their countries and themselves. Let them do their thing, and fuk the politicians!

boy, I hear that too! Athletes train their entire young lives for a shot at the olympics. It's hard to believe that in another four years many of them would be over the hill.

The time to have made a stink would have been when the games were awarded to China.

Sport is one of the few things which crosses international, racial, religious and cultural boundaries...

The suggestions here (e.g. boycott Wal-Mart) are 1000x more likely to affect change than the grandstanding of an olympic boycott. And it doesn't punish the athletes who dedicated themselves for years to reach this moment.

Let 'em play!

One, the Olympics are supposed to be about peace, cooperation, mutual respect, and be apolitical.

Two, The US, thanks to our illustrious leadership, hasn't got a leg to stand on when it comes to moral superiority.

Olympic boycotts don't work. Didn't work in the past and won't in the future. Better to treat the Chinese like the Nazis were treated; beat 'em in the competition. This is also an opportunity for the media of the world to show if they possess any gonads. SHOW the world what is going on.

But, as is often ponted out in threads about fishing, it is all about the money.

Most of what has been reported in the mainstream media is about politicians not attending the opening ceremonies and such. That is probably appropriate.

I have seen where at least on marathoner (one of the favorites) has said he will not run the race because of conditions. Too hot, too humid, and too much air pollution. Offers way too much threat to his career and health. That sort of situation will be a big black eye for China. If people compete and become ill, that will be a problem.
