Ok I need to vent before I get in trouble. There is and always has been a problem with people who call themselves angler's, snagging in the Snohomish. I have personaly had my fill.
Yesterday I ran into another individual who I have seen on two occassions in the last week snagging fish out of a hole just below Hwy 522. He rides a fancy green Sea Doo. He had a different buddy with him both times, teaching him the ways I guess.
He is sticking hooks in as many as 4 fish or more every hour. Slashing them so they can get nice infections before they spawn. Or maybe they will just bleed to death.
When I confronted them about their "snagging method" they replied "People call them that when they can't catch fish!" Hmmmmmmm Ok M$^#%$@# it's on!
So if you see this class act give him your WTF statements and maybe he will get the ideal this will not fly!!
Oh and if your the guy reading this, anytime buddy! My name is Rod Bush and I've caught a few in my day.

Rod, Glad to see this pisses someone else off other that me. Next time you see these Douche Bags call that F&W number. (8004776224) They actually responded quickley when I reported some snaggers during the last humpy run.

By the way. This is Charles Smith. You worked with my old man at shoreline fire. Thanks for taking me out for Steelhead that trip about ten years ago. I will never forget it.

How's it going Rod? Always wondered what happened to you after you quite the guiding business.

Glad to see you're still around!

Rod was the the guy who basically taught me and KidSauk how to *correctly* fish a DickNite without actually flossing those fish on the Snoho.

Yeah, I hear you about the snagging/flossing on the Snoho. Sadly, that trend seems to only be increasing, rather than decreasing.

PS to the guy who called out Rod: I'm laughing my ass off. You obviously have never fished with Rod!

Rod is and always has been one of the *good* guys out there, in my book!

It gets really tiring to see this go on day after day and realistically unchecked and under enforced. Same story on just about any river in the fall with an easy access hole close to the road and close to a hatchery. My partner and I have talked about these a-holes many times and the only possible solution is to shoot them in the knee( smile ) . They are like any other scum, your words fall on deaf ears.

They run in packs,
the answer is for ethical anglers to show in groups (which ethical anglers typically don't do) and force out the unethical anglers.
I've been on the water at times when I was the only one not setting the hook every cast...
I've reported snagging before, and the warden told me ' good luck trying to explain to a jury of peers that this guys intent was to snag a fish - all he has to do is say that he felt a bite and release any foul hooked fish and I cannot do anything...'

it sucks

Not that I'm defending these people, as I know many snaggers do it deliberately. I actually wonder how many people (particularly those from a certain 'R' country) are taught by their countrymen that is how to fish. I also have witnessed many a father teaching their kids to snag. So, for some it is the only way they can catch fish; for others maybe they actually don't know any better as they have been taught that this is fishing.

I think that Rod is the guy who taught most of how to fish those correctly in a indirect way. I saw those guys Saturday riding around witht their fish on the back and I assumed after they told me they were just using yarn that they were snagging. The worst part about them is that they were bragging about their success. There were 30+ boats in about a 1 mile stretch of river there with some really good fisherman who were really struggling to hook fish leagally.

Rod,

By the way, that was a nice fish you guys got yesterday. I am glad there are guys like you out there that aren't afraid to speak their mind.

I know exactly who your talking about. It's a green two seat sea doo. It was two asian guys out there on Saturday snagging fish. The guys on the sea doo gave their largest fish to a boat to enter into the derby. They also had a buddy who was banking it who was "in the derby" as he yelled everytime he snagged a fish. I hear the guy on the bank placed and won something. White skinny guy 6' with dyed frosted blond hair. He had a funny side arm sweep to go along with his 10' leader.

This is why I have a video camera and pack it away in my truck. I don't know which warden you talked to, but he sounds like a lazy turd. I bet he never set his coffee cup down to investigate your report of snagging. The warden i talked to, after calling the hotline, showed up at thomas edy and removed a very angry Russian. Yes I said the country with the R. RUSSIA..... Those douche bags know that there not fishing legally. I know this because I had a chat with a few on the river bank.

Yes, Those are the guys alright.
Blonde guy has a weird back swing, not to mention hair? Of course balding guys like myself say that about him because we can't grow our own.

I saw the other Dou your talking about on Saturday too.
The Asian had the technique and I believe is the owner of the See Doo.

I warned a guy that was fishing the Derby to watch for that fish on Saturday. I don't know what happened after that.

Here is a video of the blonde guy

Parker, Craig Thanks! Tight lines all...........

Charlie I just had dinner with your Mom and Dad a bit a go. They said you were fishing a lot and talked often about our trip. Good Times!! Let me know if you want to go and try to "CATCH" some fish.

Will do Rod. Email me the next time your thinking about heading out to the snohomish. Maybe we can hook up and you can show me some pointers. I'm having a kid any day, so I'm trying to get in some fishing time ASAP.

Thanks

one thing i've noticed...there are ZERO rivers where you can fish and get away from this kind of thing anymore.

yeah, a lot of guys say they won't fish the samish, skokomish, nisqually, toutle etc because of that, but the reality of it is that it's everywhere, and it's epidemic in proportion.

nobody knows how to fish the right way anymore.

I can't help but want to slap the snot out of that defiant little bastard in your avatar. Kids that are like that annoy the shi% out of me as do parents that facilitate that behavior.

Carry on.
