Joe the Plumber...the real star of the debate last night!

McCain't went on and on about how bad Obama will be for JtP, who by his own accounts is a lifelong conservative.

A couple of problems...his taxes will not go up. The dude is miles from making enough money for that to happen.

He's not a small business owner...he's just thinking about getting into the ownership biz.

Oh...he's not a licensed plumber. The State of Ohio says they have no contractor or technical licenses of any sort for him, under his name or any similar name.

I think McCain't really...REALLY..REALLYREALLYREALLYREALLY...needs to spend more than five minutes vetting anyone...ANYONE...that he wants to put on a pedestal to try and lurch his campaign out of neutral and get it in gear...other than reverse gear, of course.

Fish on...

Todd

P.S. Interviews I've seen with JtP today show him being a little pissed that McSame brought him up, and wish that once he was brought up that McSame would have actually spoke to the issues that affect JtP personally...none of what McSame said has much, if anything to do with JtP's life.

JtP appears be dumb enough to continue supporting McCain. My favorite part of his updated interviews from today is his acknowledging that he'd get a tax cut under Obama but saying he wouldn't want it.

Like I said...if Palin and JtP are examples of how McSame is vetting people now, can you imagine what a disaster he'll be at appointing hundreds of important positions if he's elected?

Fish on...

Turns out that Joe Wurzelbacher from the Toledo event is a close relative of Robert Wurzelbacher of Milford, Ohio. Who’s Robert Wurzelbacher? Only Charles Keating’s son-in-law and the former senior vice president of American Continental, the parent company of the infamous Lincoln Savings and Loan. The now retired elder Wurzelbacher is also a major contributor to Republican causes giving well over $10,000 in the last few years.

Does any of this make Joe the Plumber a bad guy? Of course not. In fact, after that ill-fated night at the Watergate, he may finally be giving plumbers a good name. But at a debate where John goes full bore on Obama for guilt-by-association with William Ayers (and dodges a bullet by Obama not mentioning Keating Five), the press is going to bring it back front and center by midday tomorrow once they delve deeper into the most popular plumber in America.

It has nothing to do with Joe the Plumber...it has everything to do with another major lapse in judgment by McSame.

A right wing strategist apologist for McSame said it was an "end of the election race off the cuff strategy..."...the reality based world sees it as "painfully grasping at straws."

You guys are denser than I thought. You and all the liberal media trying to find out about Joe! He asked Obamma a simple question. If he bought a plumbing business that earned $250k would his taxes go up and Obama said "yup. gotta spread the wealth around"! That's socialism. Who cares whether he is licensed or not? You don't have a license to buy the business. Whether or not he can afford it? Barney Flake will see that he gets the loan.

I know garbage haulers who have their own business and make a hell of a lot more than $250k. Alan Colmes loves ya!

BWP,

I know that officially there is no class system in America, but do you really believe there is no unofficial, but still effective, economic and social class system in this country? I sure think there's a societal segment that acts as though they believe there is such a system, and a lot of them are politicians or high ranking businessmen. That's my observation of the socio-economic blueblood class in America.

Joe's great just like Sarah. Normal people can relate to these types of people. Goobers that gripe about them are just posers. Hair Plug and Blowbama might be in for a surprise. The Lame Stream Media sure are on 100% attack mode. Good move McCain.

I don't know WTF this plumber has become the topic du jour.

Are the financial markets back in good shape?
Has the ME been stabilized ?
Did the Taliban move out of Afghanistan?
Has Iran decided to play nice with everyone?
Did our budget deficit decide to become a surplus?

No?

Oh, so then this whole Joe the Plumber thing really IS a distraction for what p!ss poor candidates 98% of people will be casting their votes for. Got it.

Fiddle away, Nero.

"Obama hasn't the time or the reason to screw around with a wingnut like Joe."

Nice KK, except that the Obama did have the time to screw around and he answered the question. Now you may like the answer he gave. I don't. I also don't care if Joe is a half wit , ex felon with 10 outstanding warrants. The answer is what counted. Unless of course he was lying?

We all know what is coming. Dig deep.

Um..... I know everyone has probably thought of this already, but JtP, if he is a "REAL" Plumber, is probably a Union member. Now, there is always the exception to the rule, but JtP, as a Union Plumber would most likely NOT cast a vote for the G.O.P. ticket because no good union member would EVER cast a vote for a candidate who has the endorsement of the Associated Builders and Contractors, which BTW is the single most anti union Business association in the United States today. JtP would never vote for a candidate who wants to repeal the Davis-Bacon act. Jtp would never cast a vote for a candidate who wants to continue Bushco's ban on P.L.A.s' on all jobs using federal dollars. Of course, I am making an assumption that Jtp IS a Union member...... If he's not, then who cares about Jtp, because he has no right to call himself a true tradesman, as he has highjacked his title from the men and women who actually deserve to be called plumbers............ F.Y.I...... I just so happen to be a Union member in case ya couldn't tell and I challenge any of my fellow Union brothers and sisters on the BB to offer a differing viewpoint that is still in keeping with the Union philosophy.

His response should have been "Joe, would it be fairer if we raised taxes on your whole crew who make 75K per year instead?"

Nobody wants to hear their taxes are going up, but if these goats have their way and implement their spending proposals, then SOMEONE is going to pay more.

Vote for fiscal discipline, vote for Ron Paul. thumbs

It isn't a good idea.

Spending like there IS no recession isn't a good idea, either.

Subsidies for those who don't need it, whether they be in the form of outright payments (agribusiness) or ridiculous tax breaks (energy companies) need to end, and now.

Check New Zealand's cessation of farm subsidies...they now produce more and cheaper food than they did when they were handing out subsidies...in spite of the handwringing and teeth gnashing coming out of their agribusiness industry when the end of subsidies was proposed.

It's just like the auto companies crying that they will go out of business if forced to meet better emissions standards or better mileage per gallon standards...every time it has happened, they say they will go out of business, and then they go out, meet the standards, and business continues as usual.

Every time.

Make oil companies use the permits they have in hand for exploration. If they don't, give them to those who will. When those companies do use them, take the public's cut of the public resource from those oil companies.

End tax breaks for companies that operate or send jobs overseas.

These aren't liberal or conservative concepts...these are simple and obvious concepts that any fiscally responsible person...or government...should be able to embrace out of hand.

For all the complaining about "entitlements" that are draining the economy and the coffers, the entitlements most folks are complaining about are but a drop in the bucket compared to these perpetually open taps.

Fish on...

Speaking of oil companies... why aren't they taking some of those obscene profits and investing in ways to extract the estimated 1.5 trillion barrels of oil contained in domestic shale?

It could have been Todd the auto technician who wants to buy the repair shop, and it happens frequently. The statement of spreading the wealth, by Obama is the problem. Every person on this forum, who ever wants to buy and expand a business, has the same dream as Joe the plumber.

The Left Declares War On Joe The Plumber
By Michelle Malkin
October 17, 2008

Six-term Sen. Joe Biden's got some nerve going after citizen Joe the Plumber. But the entrenched politician from Delaware, who fancies himself the nation's No. 1 Ordinary Joe, had no choice. Obama-Biden simply can't tolerate an outspoken citizen successfully painting the Democratic ticket as socialist overlords. And so a dirty, desperate war against Joe Wurzelbacher is on.

The left's political plumbers are attacking the messenger, rummaging through his personal life and predictably wielding the race card once again. It's standard operating procedure for the Obama thug machine.

Wurzelbacher, in case you've been in hibernation, is the small-business man from Ohio who questioned Obama about his tax plan during a Toledo campaign swing last weekend. The revealing exchange was caught on tape and broadcast widely across the Internet and TV airwaves.

In response to Wurzelbacher's question about why he should be "taxed more and more for fulfilling the American dream," Obama sermonized that he needed to "spread the wealth around" because "it's good for everybody."

John McCain flung that chilling Marxist mantra back in Obama's face during Wednesday night's presidential debate and repeatedly cited Joe the Plumber's plight.

Obama squirmed. The dirt-diggers started Googling. And the next morning, six-term Sen. Biden launched the first salvo against the Ohio entrepreneur on NBC's "Today Show," challenging the veracity of his story: "I don't have any Joe the Plumbers in my neighborhood that make $250,000 a year."

Under an Obama-Biden administration, they'll make sure no Joe the Plumbers ever earn such a salary. "It's good for everybody," don't you know?

Biden, as is so often the case, twisted the facts about Wurzelbacher. No surprise there. Slick Joe Biden is the one who tells fables about visiting a diner in Delaware that hasn't been open in years; spins yarns about getting "forced down" in a helicopter over Afghanistan because of perilous conditions that turned out to be weather related, not al-Qaida related; and continues to slander the family of the man involved in his wife and daughter's fatal car accident (crash investigators cleared the now-deceased driver of drunk driving, despite Biden's insinuations). But I digress.

Wurzelbacher never claimed to be making $250,000 a year. He told Obama that he might be "getting ready to buy a company that makes about $250,000, $270,000" a year. His simple point was that Obama's punitive tax proposals would make it more difficult to realize his dream.

Obama's followers couldn't handle the incontrovertible truth. Left-wing blogs immediately went to work, blaring headlines like "Not A Real $250k Plumber!" Next, they falsely accused Wurzelbacher of not being registered to vote -- he's registered in Lucas County, Ohio, and voted as a Republican in this year's primary.

Next, they called him a liar for identifying himself as undecided. Only registered Democrats and fake Republican tools used in mainstream media stories and YouTube debates are allowed to use that label, you see.

Next, award-winning liberal blogger Joshua Marshall cast Wurzelbacher as some kind of rabid freak for calling Social Security a "joke" -- as if no working-class Americans could believe that the federal government's entitlement programs were a rip-off unless they were bought and paid for by the McCain campaign.

Then, suddenly, the journalists who wouldn't lift a finger to investigate Obama's longtime relationships with Weather Underground terrorist Bill Ayers and Jeremiah Wright sprang into action rifling through citizen Joe Wurzelbacher's tax records. Politico.com reported breathlessly: "Samuel J. Wurzelbacher has a lien placed against him to the tune of $1,182.92. The lien is dated from January of '07." Press outlets probed his divorce records. The local plumbers union, which has endorsed Obama, claimed he didn't do their required apprenticeship work and didn't have a license to work outside his local township.

Hang him!

After Wurzelbacher told Katie Couric that Obama's rhetorical tap dance was "almost as good as Sammy Davis, Jr.," the inevitable cries of "bigotry" followed. (There are now tens of thousands of hits on the Internet for "Joe the Plumber racist.")

Welcome to Joe the Plumber Derangement Syndrome. If you can't beat him, smear him. It's the Obama way.

Last I heard, its not a proven technology. Its also going to be expensive. And I heard that Reid snuck a restriction into another bill on shale oil.

They had supposedly removed the ban on offshore BEYOND FIFTY MILES. According to one interview, most of the offshore oil has been found inside the fifty mile mark. They also cut off the states from sharing in the drilling production, so it doesnt sound like they are serious. If they manage to increase there ranks, I expect restrictions going back on.

Opec is meeting next week to cut production. That wont be pretty.
