Do what you love to do to perfection, than fall over dead.

Catch and release that 40 pound steelhead, high five your buddies, than fall over dead.

Eh, not a bad way to go out, if you ask me.

Good for you Don! Have fun bowling more 300's wherever you are!

Here's to hoping you don't catch a 40 lb steelhead anytime soon.

I once bowled a 279, no kidding. During one of those "Rock-n-Bowls".

Bowling... " The Polish country club "..

Got my folks out the house every friday night for years. Party time. They came home too buzzed to notice the missing beer and cloud of ganja.

Years ago I was fishing on the West side of the Elwha river down close to the mouth and three anglers were fishing close together on the other side. I watched as the guy in the middle hooks into an acrobatic steelhead and after 30 seconds or so, I see him grab his chest and slowly sit down with the rod held only with his right hand. The fisherman upriver runs down to the guy and the guy fishing lowest runs upriver to him. While the up-river guy lays the downed fisherman back on the ground, the down-river fisherman grabs the guy's rod and proceeds to continue the fight with the fish.

I have no idea how the whole thing ended, tho. I can't even tell you if the guy landed the fish. I just turned and walked upriver to fish another drift. When I again looked across the river, the guys were all gone. True story.

Over the years I have replayed that scene in my mind dozens of times.

Reminds me of two friends long gone. The first was steelheading the Deschutes near Maupin in the late 70s. He was found in the shallows, dead from a heart attack, fly rod still in hand with a length of line trailing downstream with the fly broken off the leader tippet. The second was fishing the Wenatchee River at the County park in 1985 when he too, was discovered laying in the shallows by another angler who saw the floating fly line trailing downstream. He followed it upstream and found my friend, also dead of a heart attack. That might be as good a way to leave this world as there is.
