What is up with people who have chains on their car driving on the freeway or a major highway at 30MPH, when the roadway is bare. I understand people live in places where they never see a plow. I understand you need to get into town and don't want to take the chains off then put them back on. But, driving on those chains for miles with traffic doing 70mph???

I had to dynamite the brakes on I-90 today for a woman who had all but stopped traffic suddenly while she is doing at best 30mph because she left the chains on. I mean, you don't want to take the chains off, but don't mind the asphalt ripping them off.

Yesterday was my favorite, this guy had one front tire chained, cruising at 25mph on HWY 202. I would guess the chains on the other tire just burned off, so keep on driving until you lose the next one.

When it's so bad that you got to put chains on.....stay home.

Yesterday, helped a kid dig his car out....

After that, I drove by what I thought was a kid planted face first in the snow...slowed down and saw it was an elderly gentleman. Poor guy was 80 years old and was getting his mail. Helped him back to his house...

Fortunately the road crews have been doing a good job keeping the roads clear.

This is the first time in my life I've had to use chains ( partly because I've always had 4wd until a couple years ago). It's a bitch planning my route to either stay on snowy roads, or get to a clear road where there's a good spot to stop and unchain. The truck does move pretty good with the chains though.

I haven't had to chain up any of my rigs for so many years I can't remember, but then I've almost always had 4 wheelers of one sort or another.
For the past 4 or 5 Winters I have used the Les Schwab chain "borrow"....pay for new chains each Winter, get your money back at the end of the season if you didn't use them.
Since my wife and I are headed for Wenachee tomorrow morning, it looks like it could be touch and go as to whether or not I'm going to finally be forced to lose my "freebee". smile

I've pretty much experienced all of the above this last week, so when I got home from work yesterday, I checked Alaska Air and found round trip tickets to Cabo for less then $400. Just requested the time off from work the first week of February. smile

If the roads are so bad that chains are needed to travel it's time to park the car/truck and take a break till it's over. Unless it's to cover a short stretch of roadway (1 mi. or less), but beyond that if ya gotta chain it's too nasty to be driving.

JMHO...;-)

Taking a break until the snow is gone isn't always an option. If I had 4wd I wouldn't need 'em, but for now, my truck's still chained up. Planning my route to work right now. Ugh, just got a call from a friend in Snohomish and it's been snowing hard there all morning.

I hate snow now and this is the second most I've prayed for rain, first being all those bone dry October's. We had to chain up all of our tractors to get them moving in the yard at work on Monday, had a guy come and plow our lot, and now this morning we're chaining everything up again. At least our deliveries are getting out, better late than never.

I saw a brand new mercedes with chains on going down the bare dry freeway the other day!

Also with is with all the 4 wheel drives with a set of chains on and they have them on the rear tires? Not using 4 wheel drive?

Most manufacturers recommend chaining the rear. Check your owners manual.

i-5 is littered with shredded snow chains.

WA drivers are so stupid & incompetent it's embarrassing to have WA plates on my truck.
