Well, the snow has slowed down the house & shop project just a bit, and I caught up to everybody else. Drywallers will tape and mud tomorrow, and hopefully I'll be ready for paint on Saturday!

So we got a few mini-bikes for the boys for Christmas (I am one of the boys), and they came with a stock 2.5HP Honda "clone" engine. Did a bit of reading online, and after a trip to the hardware store and Harbor Freight, I have now increased the horsepower on the "red" bike to 6.5HP. I bypassed the governor, ugraded the clutch, and I have a few parts on order that should boost it up to about 9HP or so. This will be a "dad only" bike. Funny how a $200 item turns into a $500 item pretty quickly.

Test ride is tomorrow. Pics and a report from the emergency room to follow......

The safe stock bike is green, just in case you stop by and want to take one for a spin. I figure the circular drive makes a nice quarter mile track. Didn't think about that when we layed it out. I wonder if I should bank the turns?

Brent saw those at Joe's and wanted one so bad. I didn't think Wallingford was ready for that though.
Andy with your recent rant on the skirt.....she does let you get away with anything.

I think I'd have a pretty hard time getting away with a "shocker" without a bit of injury..

First word that comes to mind is WOW!

Tips to others,

1. Dial down your throttle/idle adjustment before starting it the first time. As a precaution I had the front wheel against a wall, just in case. Glad I did, as I started burning rubber once I turned the choke off.

2. This is not a kids bike for beginners. I've ridden big bikes for 20 years, 400-1000CC, but this was a bit frightening as the acceleration was much more than I expected. Glad I left the other DB 30 in stock configuration for the boys.

3. Wear a helmet.

I can't ever remember doing a burn-out on a mini-bike before, with my 650's and 1,000's yes, but that was totally unexpected.

Pics to follow.

I rigged up my own throttle linkage out of parts from the original and new engine that didn't hook into the governor, a separate lever that normally hooks up to the throttle linkage.

Took her for a spin with the GPS, 44 mph. It was a bit squirelly. The only brakes I have now are the rear, but I'll rig up a front disk here shortly.
