Ace Frehley? Hmm. Seen him once. Can't remember him "shredding" but ok. I think Hotter than Hell is KISS's best album.

personally brewer has never bought into kiss being a great band. theatrical band yes, a illusion band is more accurate. the shredding was the name of the youtube video.

my theory of the infamous smoking guitar is simple. it's a dummy and freheley is not trully playing it during this solo. however he does do a real solo with the 2nd guitar.

i bring this up because i rember kids and people talking about this smoking guitar solo he does and how he did it. i was 12 at the time.

a brewer side note to this kiss thread is that rush was a regular opener band for kiss in rush's early years. i don't know how peter chris could have the balls to come out and play the drums. knowing that the "professor of the drum kit" had just put another drumming clinique of awe inspirering technical drumming......

Thank goodness! Mikespike thought Brewer had lost all common sense regarding rock 'n' roll, that is why Mikespike posted Nigel Tufnel's solo. Notice the same level of ability and technical prowess exhibited by Nigel as a musician.

Mikespike was 12 when he saw Kiss and he remembers Ace's guitar shooting bottle rockets from the neck of the guitar. Decades later, Mikespike realizes Ace Frehley was just a bad guitarist wearing makeup and the original version of superhero under-roos.

Mikespike has always held George Lynch in high esteem - here are some examples of his "work":

1st one, he "rocks" out, you'll see

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HUXXgiKpfrE

2nd, nice cover without "apeing" the original

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hiBMvp4fxT4

c) great jam for fish whistle and non-fish whistle users

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cGeg5iEvBE0

I'd love to hear him cover YYZ with NP!

Lynch has great chops and dexterity. Ace....not so much. But pretty much Randy Rhoads was my favorite of the rock and roll guitar players.

Here's my top picks...

1. Frank Zappa
2.Jimi Hendrix
3.Tony Iommi
4.Randy Rhoads
5.Eddie Van Halen
6.Michael Schenker
7.Gary Moore
8.Jeff Beck
9.Brian May
10.Angus Young
11.Alex Lifeson
12.Steve Vai
13.Ronnie Montrose
14.Ritchie Blackmore
15.Ace Frehley.......just kidding

As great as I thought Jimmy Page was at writing songs, producing and arranging... if you go back and watch a copy of Zeppelin's "The Song Remains The Same" on DVD... his guitar solos were about the same caliber as ol' Ace's there. fridge

Here's a list of some of my favorite rock guitarists:

Eric Johnson
Yngwie Malmsteen
Steve Vai
Nuno Bettencourt
Paul Gilbert
Tony Macalpine
Vinnie Moore
Neal Schon
Joe Satriani
John Petrucci

Just to name a few.

Check out this 1980's era Paul Gilbert shred. Makes Ace look like he's strummin' a tennis racket.

Or the the king of taste and tone... Eric Johnson:

It all boils down to this - I'm right, everyone else is wrong, and anyone who disputes this is clearly a dumbfuck.

You pathetic yankee wankers! Not one mention of the Queen's own gift to guitar, Eric Clapton. You people never would have discovered your own black, blues legends if it had not been for our boys!!! Cheers you silly sods...
