If you want to compare yourself to the man, at least honor his ideology. This is no Camelot, and while he comes from the "Land of Lincoln, he is has yet to prove himself as such.

Wise man, ol' Abe.
There is also some very interesting stuff on tyranny as described in Wikipedia, if you care to google it.
Sample:
The phrase tyranny of the majority, used in discussing systems of democracy and majority rule, is a criticism of the scenario in which decisions made by a majority under that system would place that majority's interests so far above a minority's interest as to be comparable to tyrannical despots.[1]

"There are things you can do individually, though, to save energy. Making sure your tires are properly inflated — simple thing. But we could save all the oil that they’re talking about getting off drilling — if everybody was just inflating their tires? And getting regular tune-ups? You’d actually save just as much"!

From Quotations Book: "Erroneously attributed to ABRAHAM LINCOLN. Since the 1940s these Ten Points attributed to Lincoln have been widely reprinted. They have appeared in such places as magazines, Christmas cards, and the Congressional Record. The Library of Congress and Lincoln scholars believe that any connection made between Lincoln and the Ten Points is spurious. " From Wikiquotes:"Actually a statement by William J. H. Boetcker known as "The Ten Cannots" (1916), this has often been misattributed to Lincoln since 1942 when a leaflet containing quotes by both men was published. " Just sayin'...

Maybe the point is, that people in general have known better than what our leaders are currently doing...
It would be hard to believe that our leaders are doing things which have been proven to not work on accident... I mean, these guys are aware of history right ?

why hank, because some dillhole we've never even heard of said them and they sound good to you?
As anyone who has grown up with a left lean has heard ad nauseum 'ideals fade in the real world'.
Also, 'the truth lies somewhere in the middle' applies.

h2o, "who" says "what" SHOULD have little to no bearing on whether or not the truth is spoken. You get that, don't you? "Out of the mouths of babes", so to speak. Throughout history, many mistakes have been made by those held in high regard....and I happen to think this is one of those times.

The truth is never spoken, the truth just is.
The thing about it is the 'truths' which are the foundation of the premise of the quote are feeble and need only a little 'grey' inserted into them for them to crumble.
Example:
Take 'You cannot help the wage earner by pulling down the wage payer'. Make the quote more topically specific...
'Does minimum wage pull down the wage payer?'
....and you are left to discern the truth from a question to which there is no easy answer.
No easy answers, no truth to feel-good homilies. In fact, their use and appreciation discourages us from applying real thought to real issues and real 'truths' that should be smacking us in the face...

"The truth is never spoken, the truth just is." ????
Perhaps this?? "The truth is, whether spoken or not."
The answer to the minimum wage question is: Of course paying wages (of any kind) pulls down the wage payer. Hence the migrant worker. You are right, however, that an all-encompassing answer is not clear. Ignoring poverty is not an acceptable answer, and making it unduly difficult for an employer to make a profit is likewise not acceptable.
Unlike you, however, using and appreciating all aspects of perceptions of truth I find not at all discouraging. It's called "thinking".
Do you prefer to simply be propagandized?

we obviously disagree on the basic definiton of truth.
what we speak or write is merely our perception of the truth. As I've stated before, IMO we are fallible, biased and likely don't know as much as we think we do therefore our perceptions are flawed accordingly.
Once we decide individually what the truth is that belief becomes as individual as the believer.
Creationists deny the truth of evolution. Evolutionists deny the truths of the bible. Christians deny the truths of animism. Animists deny the truths of the bible...
...and yet to each of them theirs is the ultimate truth.

I don't find any disagreement with what you just posted. Perhaps it is that there is such an "accepted without question" mind set that I find most alarming. Enter "thinking".
Example: the term "best available science" would be better stated as "most supported theory by so-and-so". Both lack "proof" but are, in spite of that fact, presented as truth. Enter "agenda".

"I will say, then, that I AM NOT NOR HAVE EVER BEEN in favor of bringing about in any way the social and political equality of the black and white races---that I am not, nor ever have been, in favor of making voters or jurors of negroes, nor of qualifying them to hold office, nor to intermarry with White people; and I will say in addition to this that there is a physical difference between the White and black races which will ever FORBID the two races living together on terms of social and political equality. And inasmuch as they cannot so live, while they do remain together, there must be the position of superior and inferior, and I, as much as any other man, am in favor of having the superior position assigned to the White race."
— Abraham Lincoln, 4th Lincoln-Douglas debate, September 18th, 1858; COLLECTED WORKS Vol. 3, pp. 145-146
This quote actually really is Lincoln's. Lets honor his ideology. Or not.

OK Irie. Here are a few other things Lincoln had to say about slavery and the rights of blacks.
"Whenever I hear any one arguing for slavery I feel a strong impulse to see it tried on him personally." The Collected Works of Abraham Lincoln edited by Roy P. Basler, Volume VIII, "Speech to One Hundred Fortieth Indiana Regiment" (March 17, 1865), p. 361.
"I have never said anything to the contrary, but I hold that notwithstanding all this, there is no reason in the world why the negro is not entitled to all the natural rights enumerated in the Declaration of Independence, the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. I hold that he is as much entitled to these as the white man. I agree with Judge Douglas he is not my equal in many respects---certainly not in color, perhaps not in moral or intellectual endowment. But in the right to eat the bread, without leave of anybody else, which his own hand earns, he is my equal and the equal of Judge Douglas, and the equal of every living man. " The Collected Works of Abraham Lincoln edited by Roy P. Basler, Volume III, "First Debate with Stephen A. Douglas at Ottawa, Illinois" (August 21, 1858), p. 16.

Oh and lets not forget that Lincoln is the one most responsible for the end of slavery. Not sure why you would attempt to discredit him
