With one of the lowest tides of the year Sebastes and I took Cjharlie , his mom and a friend to our super secret geoduck spot. The digging was a lot of work but the results were worth it.

This is what we were looking for

Then the work begins!

Sucess at last

And the final totals

Actually there is no such thing as a Geoduck. It is a figment of Vedder's imagination aided by extreme skill at Photoshop.

And if there really were, I doubt that they would be edible.

I did think however that I glimpsed a Unicorn while walking on the beach yesterday.

I got to go on this trip last series of tides. Charlie taught me to eat the neck raw (sashimi style) and to stir fry the body. Both were excellent.
For the neck you just scald it and the outer skin peels right off. You do the same with the horse clams but it's harder to get the skin off.

Charlie it looks like you figured out a pack system for your tube.

Great haul guys! I dug one on fathers day. Four feet deep in sand.... Tried for 2, got one, along with sore muscles. If you dip the neck in boiling water, the skin will peel off like a sock. I saute the foot with garlic butter and other herbs. No need to pound this! If you find yourself scraping off the softer orange meat with your fingers, stop! This is the most tender meat on the clam!
The neck takes some pounding.

Cheers,
Neal

Uh, huh, we went yesterday, but only lasted for a couple hours so didn't do as well as Mr. V. But, heading out in a couple minutes with 6 kids in tow, if we can get 4 amongst all the other distractions the kids will be seeing, I'll be happy.

I'd say that's the most real work Vedder has done all year except he doesn't seem to be the one digging in the pics.
