The group is one of several in Hawaii that reject statehood and seek to return to the constitutional monarchy that effectively ended in 1893 when a group of politicians, businessmen and sugar planters -- aided by the U.S. minister to Hawaii -- overthrew the kingdom's government.
Go on you tube and look up a few videos on this subject. some old Discovery channel and travel channel stuff. Very informative.
what is sort of stupid abotu this whole thing....it aint ever gonna happen. are you kidding me? illegal or not the united states isnt HANDING hawaii back over. So fight a battle you can win. fight for the culture, to preserve it, fight for a way to keep hawaii, hawaii. Use our own laws to get what you want UNDER the united states, but its words on deaf ears. They keep their heads on the grindstone and dont see a bigger picture. Fighting a losing battle. I dont agree with what our country did AT ALL...but im looking at a bigger picture of overpopulation and seeing the "hawaiians" disappear in the gene pool. .
Asian interbreeding has turned the hawaiin race into asains. just fly over here for some tourism and youll see them EVERYWHERE. they are very few real "hawaiins" left. And they are going fast. As is the culture due to the bad schooling out here. Now they have "obviously not even close to hawaiins" performing all of their visual arts EVERYWHERE you can see. Luau's , dances, alllll the culturall arts are down by 99% haoles and asains. So instead of helping their cause to draw attention to their cause it works the opposite way because when tourists come here all they see is every other race performing their culture and the interbreeding is seen as "ok" so no one even thinks about it any other way.
to top it all off.....the animosity that is expressed to all white people ( not asains who happen to be the ones squeezing them off) is working against them. it only pushes them (whites) further from believing and being sympathetic to their cause. let alone helping.
Think about history....think about how many times a race/country has taken over another race/country illegally or not.....what happens? usually the race in question is ERADICTED or assimilated with force. Aztecs? anybody the romans conquered?
now think if any other country had tooken over hawaii....which would have happened...hawaii is to strategic of a position militry wise to be left alone.
so the hawaiians would rather be controlled by the then Nazi's? or how about japan? oh maybe Korea? RUSSIA? that sounds like a good idea. they would have been wiped out or persecuted until they were no more. NO freedoms...no rights...nothing. not until recently have those been places you'd want to grow up or live in. not in the days that we took over hawaii.
Without a better mass education system, and a collective effort from ALLLLL hawaiians not just 10%, to educate everyone on exactly what options they have and WHY they should be taking certain actions.... then only thing their going to change is how long or short their culture stays around. do the math on population. its less then a hundred years by current population trends just even on hawaii.
just my thoughts.

I remember that Brady Bunch episode like it was yesterday. I thought they got the Evil Tiki back in the cave? Seriously though, Out of the Hawaiian Natives I've met it's been 50/50. Unfortunately for the good 50%, the bad 50% made me want to vote for extinction. There's a famous quote that applies perfect to Native Hawaiians and outsiders and you get extra credit if you can name it's origin. "Ya fuct up! Ya trusted us!"

i do understand...i do at least to some degree. im pretty young but i still feel so alive out here. everyday i wake up and i just feel fantastic. People look younger out here. they live longer and surf into their 80's.
but fighting a power like the U.S....on somethign that is quite obviously never going to change? maybe im an idiot, i never claimed not to be, but i dont see a win there. i see an endless struggle with the U.S. stringing them along until they are pretty much gone.

Billy Frank Jr. exercised what he believed were treaty rights to fish and tried to negotiate with the state but Slade Gorton would not negotiate so the result is the Boldt decision. If it gets into court who knows what the result will be if the Hawaiians keep protesting.
