You can't go wrong with either the Mark III or the 22/45 MKIII. That is my sidearm when hunting and it will readily head shoot grouse with amazing ease. I prefer Rem. Yellowjackets as they feed and group well.

Good luck.

I've got the MK II and love it. Booger to put back together until you get the hang of it though.

Ain't that the truth....but I don't clean (fieldstrip) my .22's till there are at least 3,000 rds thru them, unless it has a problem.

I'd much rather have a beat to [censored] MK II,than a NIB III.

Mag disconnects,Yuppie safeties and junk sights are a series of concessions I'm unwilling to make. As to a 5.5" tube,I prefer 6" and change, both in balance and sight radius.

Tough to beat a II in S/S Gubment.

Don't disassemble your 66,or you'll have a cup full of "extra" parts.

Take a toothpick to the extractor groove and clean the crud out of it. As to the fire control system,Starting Fluid is your friend and hose her with enthusiasm.

Let it dry(take seconds) and run it less lubrication and you are there.

Thanks for the info, its a sweet little gun. Bore looks good, action is abit dirty I am told its been sitting in the closet for years.

The other 22 pistol I am concidering is the Smith and Wesson 22A, its concideribly less expensive. Feels well balanced, I don't like the sights. However the only one I have seen was a used one. So perhaps they have a model that has an upgraded sight.

I am becoming frustrated with the limited selection at ALL of the gun shops.

22A's are junk. The elder 422-esque lineage offers more performance, for less loot. While I've several versions,I prefer the 6" fixed over the rest.

The only 66's that puke, are those that have been disassembled,as they are bulletproof as issued.

On the 66 in particular,zipe,zero,nada,zilch...none.

The 66's synthetic stock and weather resistant sideplates, there's not much of anything to protect, save perhaps the adjustable rear sight's ladder. BFD.

I like anything with Teflon in it,abhor WD-40 and the like.

I have the little Ruger you ask about. had it about 4 years now and it has yet to disappoint in the performance dept. Like Stick said the mag safety is a bit silly to say the least(gunsmith said he would fix that for me). The relocated mag release is a nice touch. And, I dont really care for the fiber optic sights. It does come drilled for bases and I have a rail mounted with a Burris Fast Fire on top. Shoots great like that. Just for the hell of it I mounted my Buris 2-7x pistol scope on it and was pleasantly surprised. I have shot the MK II's but not owned one. I was unable to hold one in higher regards than the other but like I said, my experience with the mkII's is limited. I can only shoot jacketed ammo with reliability and CCI's are the best I have come across. Still want to try out a few others. Found a picture of mine when I had the scope on it.

looks a little silly but I could shoot the wings off a fly with it. Hell, I could even curve the bullet.

Stick, have you had any luck shooting the non-jacketed ammo in the MKII's?

MK I's/II's have no issue shooting unplated fodder.

They all shoot exceptionally on the average, but the III's are a Yuppified version of consumate utility,at the expense of reliability and replete with a higher price. Lose/lose.

MK II's get the nod,due to their ubiquitous mag supply,in conjunction with the aforementioned inherent mechanical advantages. Bang for the buck, they are squarely a steal.

For a knockabout, the fixed 422 really does horn me up.

Went with the Mark 3 target, had one of those want/need moments.

Decided I didn't need one, so I bought a used Mark 3 for several hundered less than the cool stainless one I wanted.
