2009 has been a great year. Went to Johns River for ducks. Lacking a boat or retriever cuts down on the options.

While i was setting up my decoys had a flock of geese fly over. Two shots later and I had my first goose in more than 40 years of bird hunting. A young of the year white-front.

That was it. Despite the wind and intermittent rain there were no ducks around. The geese kept working, though, and a couple other hunters got seven or eight.

Cool!

I watched one of the guys belly crawl for about 100yds to sneak up on a flock of geese. When he stood up to shoot, they just looked at him. he walked a bit closer before they flushed. He got his 4.

Cacklers are suckers. More than one time someone in our group during the late hunt has walked straight at them, only to close another 20+ yards before they flushed.

I had 4 land in front of me but they were about 50+ yds away. They fed away from me.

The geese there were pretty well tied to the area we were hunting in. They would leave, and the come back, circle around, and offer somebody a shot.

To wrap up the story, we had the goose done up in a caccitore (sp?) over pasta. I need to get some more geese!

That follows on some wonderful venison steaks and summer sausage.

I need to kill some more game, that's for sure.
