Lewis County man shoots and kills burglar!

Nice to see someone knows how to do it right, complete with the Uncle Jimbo "he was comin' right at me" catch phrase.

See this is a different scenario than "dude was running off with my 100 dollar speakers."

To continue moving toward a man pointing a gun at him under those circumstances might just earn him a Darwin award. I feel bad for the homeowner, but he probably helped make the world a better place.

Avid,

It differs from the "running off with the speakers" incident only in the details. It's reasonable to expect that given a few more minutes, the Toledo burglar would have similarly been running off with whatever he could have picked up and run with, but for being stopped at an earlier stage of the same game.

The only way that residential burglaries will stop being an epidemic is when the risks to burglars outweigh the perceived benefits. That's only going to happen if a significant percentage of would-be burglars get shot and killed. We can probably agree that the criminal justice system isn't going to solve it, and in fact directly contributes to the problem because it keeps the risks low.

Sad story, but with an acceptable ending.

Extermination of another vermin.

Hopefully, it wasn't his tweaked out great-nephew or something. Even if it was, it still is a good ending for the rest of us.

I doubt that's how it really went down, but the situation being what it is, I see no need to question it.

My guess the guy heard him come in and waited at the top of the stairs and if he said anything at all it was "So long, Sucker!!!" and then ran downstairs to make sure he didn't have any accomplices or get-away drivers that needed silencing. Which is exactly what I'd have done.

But like I said, the ends justify the means.

If you are married for a split second you'll think about staining the carpet and then blow him away.

The stairs are cherry, and all of the downstairs is cherry or slate.

Sorry for the homeowner, and the bad guy's family, but not the deceased. He'd get the same treatment at Casa Dogfish. I have extra slate and cherry flooring.

Dogfish, with slate and hardwood. it would be an easy clean up no need to replace any of your fine surfaces.

Unless you use a shotgun, there's a good chance there'll be a hole or a chip in the floor or panelling, depending on trajectory. Unless the bullet(s) lodge in the spine.

Too bad you can't sue next of kin for damages incurred while doing the world a favor.

Sorta' on topic, but not being a firearms or ballistics expert, I heard that a shotgun with #4 shot is the near perfect home defense weapon because, 1. you don't need perfect aim; 2. #4 shot does a good job on burglars; and 3. it won't penetrate walls, so you have very limited damage and don't injure innocent bystanders in the next room, etc. However, in case the shotgun doesn't completely finish the job, every nightstand should contain a revolver or Glock or something to put one or two bullets in the head to make sure that the intruder doesn't get up and cause you harm before the deputies arrive.

Then again the holes in the hardwood, would make a nice conversation piece when my daughters brought their dates home.

How about asking for the head to mount on the wall...after the crime scene is finished up of course?

I use a progressive defense load pattern in my 357.The first two rounds are snakeshot. That won't stop anybody but stings like hell.
The next two rounds are semi wad cutters loaded backwards. Those won't penetrate but will knock you down. The third two rounds are 158 gr. jacketed hollow points with the hollow points drilled out and shotgun primers pressed in backwards.I call these disrupters. If I have to get to those your probably going to be cut in half.If I get called on whether I used excessive force,I can point out that he would't stop on the non lethal rounds. This also helps if a child has got a hold of the weapon. The snakeshot probably won't seriously injure anybody but should scare the hell out of the child if he discharges the weapon. If needs be in a confrontational situation,I can get six rounds off in under four seconds.

I asked a policeman who was issueing me a police report after my house was burglerized if I can shoot the bad guys if I'm home....

He said sure. Make sure they're not kids. Make sure you shoot them in the front side. Make sure he has a weapon. If no weapon give him one.
Make sure he's dead. You can get your ass sued if he's not dead.

Amen, Brother Andy! Amen!

If you're gonna do it, do it RIGHT the first time, as you probably won't get too many mulligan's or do-overs in a home invasion scenario.

I'm curious to see what those would do in Ballistic Gel or a block of clay.

I don't know.It would be interesting to find out.I did shoot a piece of 4x4 piece of wood and it took it right in half.I did another round in a huge pumpkin.I m guessing it weighed about 150 pounds.the biggest piece was about six inchs .When I shot the 4x4 you could hear the primer go off.I didn't hear it with the pumpkin.
