He said sure. Make sure they're not kids. Make sure you shoot them in the front side. Make sure he has a weapon. If no weapon give him one.
Make sure he's dead. You can get your ass sued if he's not dead.

I love the way this forum can be so educational. Now I need to learn what snakeshot is, semi wad cutters, hollowpoints I think I know, and shotgun primers backwards totally has me scratching my head.

I think Dogfish subscribes to the "any job worth doing, is worth doing well" school of thought. But it poses greater risk to the new house.

So how many seconds in a home intrusion scenario? I remember reading something by a Marine guy about a so many second or so many feet rule - like a guy coming at you with a knife leaves you so many seconds within so many feet of distance for you to identify a bad guy, draw your weapon, aim, and fire accurately enough to stop said bad guy before he stabs you with the pig sticker. As interesting as it was, I seem to have forgotten the important details, except that being armed doesn't ensure being protected.

And if you shoot him in your yard, drag him into the house......and put another slug in him.

The rule is the 21 foot rule.

An assailant with a knife who is 21 feet away will likely stab you before you can draw, clear, and engage your weapon. That's what we were taught. With a determined person from outside of that range, you'll still likely get cut unless you connect with bone or spine with your shots.

Center mass, and don't stop shooting till they stop moving. Remove the threat.

My close encounter as a Denny's manager was 8 feet in the vestibule where the video games and phone are, and as a deputy my encounter was about 10. Luckily for all they complied immediately upon seeing my weapon. I upgraded to a .45 ACP after those encounters.

8 and 10' puts you among the lucky. So when's the one for the head? After they stop moving? But I'm guessing you can't draw, clear, and engage any faster with the 45, so the 21' rule still applies?

As much as I hate multi-level houses, having the bedroom up off the main floor seems like a great advantage in reacting to a burglary.

It all boils down to this - I'm right, everyone else is wrong, and anyone who disputes this is clearly a dumbfuck.

Who's the dude 21 feet away? Usain Bolt?

That seems like a lot of ground to cover before someone airs you out.

Looks like that dude should have broken into a house in Seattle or Portland. You're bound to get shot breaking into a house in Toledo.

Good for the old fella for making his stand..........in his own home.

150lbs of Doberman is my early warning device (two dogs), loud toothy and fairly protective. After that it is either a .45 (I like flying ashtrays) or the trusty .357 mag.
I was told the same thing as SeaStrike by the officer responding to my break in call(neither the Dobies or I were home during the incident). Dead men tell no tales .. (and they can't hire attorneys) .. .
I also learned the same theory as DogFish, keep firing until the weapon is empty or the threat is neutralized/down/dead/no longer a threat.

Salmo, another portion of the shotgun as best home defense weapon is that if fired, wether you hit the target or not the assailant will be scared sh!tless, mostly deaf and blind and easy to track by the smell they will be emitting from their drawers as they flee the scene . . .

Seems to me having a Lezbaru in the driveway with one of those faggy "CoExIsT" Sickers on the back is like an open invitation for a home-invasion robbery. There's probably a good reason you don't see too many of those in places like Toledo...(one of them being the pickups full of Rednecks looking for someone to lynch.)

I have a CWP, loaded weapons in auto and home, but I often ask myself, if the situation were to come up, would I and could I pull the trigger. Confidence and certainty likes to say yes, but being in the situation, I hope to never have to confirm my preconceived notions.

Could you all realistically and without hesitation pull the trigger?

If someone pulls a home invasion on our house..they have waived all of their rights at that point and will be SHOT DEAD..END OF STORY.

I would rather be judged by 12 then carried by 6.

It always boggles my simple mind, how a homeowner can be sued for wounding a would-be robber, assailant, etc... [censored] ain't right.

I concur with Sol Duc. Enter my home, might as well hang a target on yourself.

Thrasher - I know that once the perp has been identified as such via 110 lumens of blinding light, he would be issued a warning, Only if there was time. Then proceed to send 230 grains of .45ACP down the pipe and send him to meet his maker. Why a .45? No need for followup shots!!!

I don't think anyone wants to take the life of another, I know I don't, but if they put you in fear for your life or the lives of your loved ones, ... The answer is simple.

I heard a stastic once, that nationally, the average gun fight is 3 seconds at 3 feet. Anyone hear that one ?????

Sht, I'd probably get my ass shot. I'm old school. Guns never came into play...knives almost never....fists, Hell yeah. Did my share of split-lippin' with a knife in my pocket....never once crossed my mind to use it for anything more than a tool.
Yup......I'm toast.
