My neighbor and I both got a cow tag in GMU666(Deschutes) Jan 10-20 not real familar with the hunting areas down there any one know of where to start looking? I am assuming it is a damage control hunt any help would really be appreciated. We thought we might start at the steps of the Capitol building and work our way out but if someone has a better idea it might save us some trouble.

Call the Region 6 biologists and get suggestions on where to start. Max Zahn, and Warren Michaelis.

666 Doesn't have a high incidence of harvest over the past few years, check the harvest reports. South or SE section would be my best guess. Why did you apply for that area? It wouldn't have made any of my top 30 choices for a cow hunt, and I grew up in the area.

There's plenty of does in our neighborhood. Does Olympia Country Club allow hunting on the back nine?

I cant remember, but is the Vail Tree Farm in 666 or 667? I think the Skookumchuck is in 666. Prolly a better bet than Cooper Point, you cant throw a rock without hitting a housing development.

667 is Skookumchuck.

Deschutes is mostly private. Not sure why somebody who had never been in the unit would put in for a tag. Especially since you can allready shoot any elk during the general season. Not many around anymore due to the any elk seasons for several years. Hate to think you wasted yer points on that tag. But GOOD LUCK and hope you can find one of the straglers.

best bet is going to be Ft. Lewis but you will need to jump through their hoops to hunt on the base.
