Policework?

I'm guessing you nailed the guy in a speed trap where a 50 zone dropped to a 25 zone, and it just so happened the guy had warrants and was loaded to the springs with contraband. Lucky you.

While you were parked in the bushes pointing that radar gun and sipping coffee, there were 18 car prowls and 4 burglaries.

But THOSE don't generate revenue...

Im not saying your priorities are skewed, since you're putting your ass on the line for your community, but the priorities of your employer might be.

The only reason there are ANY laws against Marijuana in the US date to The Jim Crow Era where it was an excuse to put more Blacks on Chain Gangs or in workhouses.

Anyone transporting that amount knows the risk they are taking. If the guy had 5 outstanding warrants and decided to take the risk anyway, He is a dipstick and deserves to be in jail.

If growing pot were made legal, I don't think you'd see a huge non-taxable base of home growers...last I checked, people growing tomatos at home hasn't really hurt the tomato farmers much.

Fish on...

tomato's don't make people high either...

The cost differential between store bought -vs- the cost to grow your own will be the true driver in that senario...

even home brewed beer costs marginally less that what it cost to buy from the store... factor in the cost of water if you live in the city and it probably cost more to brew your own...

it would be interesting to see just where the price point would settle for legal pot

I'm wondering why 17 pounds in the pot capital of America was considered worthy of posting? You sure it wasn't more that got lost on the way to the evidence room?

I'm also betting that, in that county, all jobs and revenues are directly related to the distribution of pot. So if you were to truly clean it up the local economy would be devistated, violent crime would increase and there would be little revenue for law enforcement. So, it's like biting the hand.

Especially since pot hasn't gone up in price in 20 years. Last I checked, it's still $40 for 1/8 oz. I still remember being outraged when it went up from $35 back when I was in High School. smile

A lid was one full ounce and cost $15 when I was in college. We didn't have pot in my high school until 2 years after I graduated; it just hadn't made it there yet. Funny times.

Fuzzy, I see where this is going, and refuse to go there with you. I did have red hair at one time, but then time took most of it away.

tyee, Don't get me wrong because I do appreciate what you do. I have never in 53 years met a bad cop. I've always treated them with respect and have received the same from them. I respect them(you) because they have a hard job and put your life on the line at any givin time. Maybe I've been lucky but the ones that I've met where out to protect and serve not harass citizens. NOTE: arresting somebody with 5 warrants and 17 pounds of pot is not considered "harassing citizens" in my book.

If you pulled me over and I had 17 pounds of pot in the bed of my truck, I would expect nothing less but a free ride in a cop car warrants or not. Now if I was sitting on a rock next to my tent looking at the river at sunset smoking a joint and while your on duty you walk up behind me. Would you arrest me?

yes , but fortunately between buffoon and dolt i ran across this simply amazing chocolate fudge recipe from martha stewart
yum yum smile

Ingredients

Makes 32

* 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, plus more for pan
* 3 tablespoons best-quality cocoa powder
* 2 cups sugar
* 2/3 cup milk
* 3 ounces best-quality semisweet chocolate, finely chopped
* 2 tablespoons light corn syrup
* 1 cup walnut halves, cut into large pieces

Directions

1. Butter an 8-by-8-by-2-inch pan. Sift cocoa powder and sugar into a medium bowl.
2. Prepare an ice bath. In a small saucepan, combine milk and cocoa-powder mixture with a wooden spoon until a sandy, pastelike texture forms. Add chocolate, butter, and corn syrup. Cook on low heat, stirring constantly, until sugar has completely dissolved, 7 to 10 minutes.
3. Using a pastry brush, wash down sides of pan with cold water. Increase heat to medium. When a candy thermometer registers 236 degrees. remove the pan from heat, and place in ice bath for 5 seconds. Transfer pan to a heat-proof surface, and let sit until thermometer registers 121 degrees. about 45 minutes.
4. Using a wooden spoon, stir fudge briskly until it begins to lose its sheen, 2 to 3 minutes. Stir in walnuts. Spread fudge into prepared pan with wooden spoon. Using your fingers, smooth fudge. Cover with plastic; chill 30 minutes. Cut into 1-inch squares.
