Didn't catch it all. Something about a trillion dollars spent and sending 30,000 more troops to Afgan....

Was hoping for some more free handouts... rofl

There is more but I have errands to run. Not a bad speech, but I dont get the impression any of the troops believe or support him based on the blank looks in their faces throughout the whole thing.

I think the blank looks are from realizing where they are headed after graduation. I missed most of the speech so I can't rate it. All I have to say is God bless our men and women in the armed services.

Just that the POTUS is trying to patch things up, instead of keep trying to [censored] things up tenfold just to enrich his buddies is a good sign.

However, if it were me in charge, the firing squads would be working overtime.

I am glad he finally decided to back up his troops. They need it and deserve it.
Unfortunately his time frame is just another one of his lies though.

I am only going to fight the war for three years and then i am going to quit?Only somebody with some serious blinders on can support such a statement.

Might as well just go to the troops and say we are going to fight this war until we loose.

Perhaps it's a bit ironic that the opportunity at re-election will be in 2012 just after he's promised to pull the troops.

I'd rate it as an Obama speech. That is, a thoughtful one. Certainly not impulsive. He is between a rock (Iraq) and a hard place. If we just leave, Afghanistan will be retaken by the Taliban and Al Qaeda, and that ain't good for the US. If we stay, send more troops, etc., there's no assurance of ever achieving the objective of stability that serves our interests. There are no good choices. I'm anti-war, but I think he's making the best choice available to him.

If we're still in Afghanistan in Nov. 2012, Obama is a one term president. American voters are fickle, and not too bright.

We have moved some assets from Iraq back to Afghanistan. However, Obama's campaign promises of pulling out completely were just smoke at the time. Anyone with a small amount of understanding would have seen right through that for what it was. Most here I'm sure did. He made a lot of promises that got him elected but, like just about every other politician, those promises have not been carried out.

We're still in Iraq because we created a quagmire that won't be easy to extricate ourselves from. Bush Sr. understood, so we left when and as we did. Bush Jr. is dumb as a box of rocks, isn't capable of thinking beyond the end of his nose, and there we are. If we leave Iraq before it can fend for itself, it will be overtaken by Iran, sort of like the situation we're in in Afghanistan, only worse.

Nothing I'd like more than to pull out of both Iraq and Afghanistan. But doing so more likely than not, has consequences that are worse than staying and trying to stabilize the region. Even though stabilizing that region may not be possible. Did I mention that I don't think there are any good choices?

I think setting time tables in a war is idiotic. You never know how a war will unfold. If the enemy knows were going to pull out in 2011..they just need to wait us out. I like the idea that Obama doesen't want to stay there with an open ended time frame..that works for me.
